You are correct, there is no author named for this article. It is therefore possible that it was penned by one of the editors, Michael Burchall or Stephen Warden. Michael Burchall is a regular contributor to the SFHG Mailing List and, if he wrote the original article 40 years ago, there is just a chance that he might remember it.
