Eric. Should you be looking for a UK group, you could not go past the Oxford (Sykes) at http://www.oxfordancestors.com/index.html but world wide the Family Tree DNA in USA are the largest http://www.familytreedna.com/products.html Both these and others combine results in YSearch http://www.ysearch.org. The Latterday Saints under Sorenson will do free testing but are not yet as I understand, prepared to give actual Marker values. Interesting reading though - http://www.smgf.org/ With Dna, some finds are made but with the size of the present databases, you would be lucky to achieve good results. Peter Oxenbridge New Zealand
Thanks to those who offered advice on change of e-mail address Tony (11552)
I received it Jackie, I would suggest that when you get problems like this it is best to contact Tech support at your` ISP immediately, invariably the problem lies in a glytch in our own computers that a trained expert can usually talk us through, resolving ourselves in a few minutes. Hi Can anyone please tell me how I notify a change of e-mail address to the list (not to listers, but to the list itself, so messages sent to the list come to my new address)? Thanks! Tony Golding (11552)

All I would like to get my DNA analysed re where I came from etc. Can anybody recommend a trustworthy company. I live in East Sussex Eric
I shall look forward to reading your article. I'm re-reading Larkrise to Candleford at the moment and am amazed at how many things I've forgotten, in particular that it contains so much about the largely undocumented lives of women and children. Jenny 11474
Thanks for the replies everyone I have not been able to send or receive for the past 3 weeks my ISP gone haywire Regards Jackie 10751

Just trying to see if this will go through Jackie
Hello Members, I was pleased to read mail from readers wishing to know how our AG. Labs ancesters lived ,I wrote a short piece for the Mag. last year & hope it will be published in next issue , excerps from all the books mentioned, as well as Peter Lasslett Camb. Uni. press "The World we have lost" I must say I was ignorant of how the Common People were treated in the past 400 yrs. I do not think things have changed very much. All the best Stan 11275
Debbie wrote "Godalming and the neighbourhood had its patent fleecy hosiery, its works for wool-combing, for blankets, tilts, and collar-cloths." Now to find out what a "tilt" was... My modern Colllins dictionary gives the noun 'Tilt' as an awning or canopy usually canvas, for a boat, booth etc [Old English 'teld' ] I should mention that daily I am getting at least one of the list entries going in my 'junk email folder' . I can't see any reason for this. Is it to do with wording in the subject line ? Margaret #5836
It looks to me as though it depends on whether or not the message is a "reply" or an original. Hello I have found an ancestor listed with an occupation of "Tilting Blanket Maker". I have two "Old Occupation" books neither of which have this occupation listed. I have done a "Google" search without success. Is anyone aware of the nature of a "Tilting Blanket". With thanks Anne Wiltshire smuggler@iinet.net.au Runaway Bay QLD Australia

Margaret, I am finding the same. Most SFHG messages end up in the correct inbox but almost every day one finds its way to my spam box. I cannot see any difference in the way the message is addressed, so I am equally bemused. Gordon Smith (8479) ----- Original Message ----- From: "M. At least until the 1960s, showmen who ran funfairs called the canvas covers of the rides 'tilts'. Tony 9967 Petersfield On 06/03/2008, M. Sonia, As a last resort, you could try the Methodist headquarters at www.methodist-central-hall.org.uk. I might be totally wrong, but it's possible they would have your answer.
