Hello Margaret, The National Archives have a list of independent researchers who offer a latin transcription service for wills. The section of the web page that you want is entitled 'Research guides and further information' and is at: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/wills.asp Regards, Mike. Does anyone know where I can get Latin Wills and documents transcribed. Margaret Sear SFHG12577
Margaret, I have been using someone recommended by SFHG a while ago. He undertakes translations without charge on the understanding that he can keep a copy for Genealogical Society archive. His name is David Woolven and you can contact him initially on: _woolven440@btinternet.com_ (mailto:woolven440@btinternet.com) To ask him for details as he prefers copies by post. Regards, Keith Powell (http://www.desksystems.co.uk/)

Hi Michael, According to the 1841 census, Edward and Mary were not born in Kent although all 6 children were. (Mary, Joseph, Edward, John, Sarah, Ann) 1851 census Edward is shown as living at Whisketts Farm Lamberhurst, born Hastings 1801. Mary, also born 1801, is shown as being born in Cranbourne, Dorset. They are still at Whisketts farm in 1861. Hope this is of some use. Looking for Harriet CRUTTENDEN, (CRITTENDEN) , born ABT 1830 Greys Essex, in 1861 census. I had her living with one of my family connections but now can't find her. She would most likely also have a daughter with her. And be a servant or assistant with the family living in Sussex. Possibly with Carter or Peters family. She married David Peters after 1861. 1851 she was married to Cruttenden and living St. George in the East. I have her 1851, 1871 etc. Just need her 1861. Thank you Heather
I would also like to join Brenda and Georgina in thanking everyone involved for another very successful and enjoyable Annual Conference. I did hear the date of next years conference, but did not hear where it is to be held, is it at Clair Hall again? Thanks once again, Pat Ward Member 6406.
Thanks to every body who took time to reply to me. Am I right in thinking that we could at one time have free access to the original 1881 returns? Hi Helen, For some reason I am unable to open your attachment . The reason I wanted to see the original census is that the transcription shows William P Wood as the Head and is 22 years old. Hannah had a son Willaim P who would be that age. Therefore I suspect the other William listed is actually Hannah's husband and head of the household. Does the original clearly show 30 years or could it be 50? Best wishes Alan. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Helen Shipley" <natbrent@fastmail.fm> To: "Alan" <alaninspain@msn.com> Sent: Saturday, April 12, 2008 8:16 PM Subject: Re: [SFHG] 1881 census > Here is the transcript and will attach copy of image too: > > 1881 England Census 1881 England Census > Name: Hannah Wood > Age: 52 > Estimated Birth Year: abt 1829 > Relation: Mother > Gender: Female > Where born: Shipton Beauchamp, Somerset, England > > Civil Parish: Stoke Damerel > County/Island: Devon > Country: England > > Street address: 3 Lambert St > Condition as to marriage: Married > Education: > > Employment status: View Image > > Registration district: Stoke Damerel > Sub-registration district: Morice > ED, institution, or vessel: 5 > Neighbors: View others on page > Household Members: Name Age > Fanny Chorley 6 > George Wood 14 > Hannah Wood 52 > John Wood 18 > William Wood 30 > William P. Can I second that remark. Anyone who wasn't there missed a great day. I met up with a lady who had come from Barbados, so my journey from Surrey seemed very tame! Brilliant speakers, yes, I could have listened to them for much longer, and could have spent all day just looking at the stalls. I also enjoyed the lunch, and was grateful the tea and coffee supply. Am looking forward to next year! Congrats to all concerned, Georgina Colwell 10821. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brenda Judd" <bj@windmillway.wanadoo.co.uk> To: <SFHG@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 12, 2008 10:37 PM Subject: [SFHG] Annual Conference 12 April 2008 > May I say a big thank you to all who had a hand in arranging the Annual > Conference today. > > The three speakers were excellent, entertaining us with their knowledge, > wit and humour on three different subjects and the lunch was very good if > not so varied as in previous years. > > A very enjoyable day! > > > > Brenda Judd > bj@windmillway.wanadoo.co.uk > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > SFHG-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes > in the subject and the body of the message > >

The three speakers were excellent, entertaining us with their knowledge, wit and humour on three different subjects and the lunch was very good if not so varied as in previous years. Alan, William P Wood is listed as Head of House and his parents and brothers (John and George) and a visitor (Fanny Chorley) are listed as living with him. William P Wood's age is 22. I am correct in thinking that there is nowhere to access the originals of the 1881 census? I have a transcript from Family Search.org amd I would like to check the details are accurately transcribed. Any suggestions please. Alan 10469

I have a transcript from Family Ancestry has scans of the enumerators books. They are, of course, a subscription/PPV site. If you mean *free* access to images, then you'll have to go to a library, LDS centre or TNA. Being in Spain (I think you are, yes?) renders two of those impractical, and I don't know how well served Spain is by LDS. Even they will charge a (nominal) fee for getting in microform copies of the relevant census data if they don't already have it in your local centre. -- Regards _ / ) "The blindingly obvious is / _)rad never immediately apparent" The public wants what the public gets Going Underground - The Jam

Assuming that you are refering to remote access, if you have a subscription to ancestry.co.uk or ancestry.com, you can view the census schedules there. Also for some counties, you can purchase the 1881 Census CD sets from S&N. Alternatively, you can order the films from your local LDS family history centre. If you don't have access to any of the above and if it is just one sheet that you need to see, post the TNA Piece Number, folio number and the name of the person that you are looking for to this List and another List Member may well be able to access the page that you need and send it to you off-List as a *.jpg file.
