    3. Although I can't help with Diana's query, I am interested to read that quarry records were checked. I have lots of ancestors (from Staffordshire) that were involved in the quarry industry over the last 200 years but I have never known that there were any records that would be of interest to family history researchers. Can Diane or anyone else enlighten me as to what quarry records are available. Kind regards Roger ----- Original Message ---- From: "Dkn72a@aol.com" <Dkn72a@aol.com> To: SFHG-L@rootsweb.com Cc: RWHB1@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, 29 April, 2008 9:15:55 PM Subject: [SFHG] Query. This doesnt relate to a Sussex person, but someone may be able to help. For several years my son has been searching records trying to find out what happened to his 3xGt.Grandfather Edward Bulley. 1871 Census he was alive and living with his wife Ruth. 1881 Census Ruth was living alone. 1891 Census Ruth was living alone. 1898 Ruth remarried stating that she was a widow. (Certificate obtained.) Overseas Death Registers checked - no trace. Army Registers checked - no trace. Some Emigrant ships records checked - no trace. Quarry Records checked - no trace. Local Records checked (Taunton area where they lived) - no trace. 15 Death Certificates obtained for Edward Bulley, but in every case the wife had a different Christian name so it was not him. 1. [SFHG] Blackman, Brighton
    2. Roger Nash
    3. June There were Blackman’s in Brighton as far back as 1840 when James Blackman was born there. He later married into my tree in 1871 when he married Martha Jane Sayers, in Brighton. I do not have any children that I know of, though that is not to say there weren’t any. I was interested to find a Blackman cropping up in this context as I have several generations of Blackman’s recorded in Horsham in the 19th-early 20th century. That family came from Rye, as shoemakers. There may eventually be something there for you. No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG. 2. Reference to message ID 004501c8aa93$2bfl55d0$4101@8c02user In reply to a request from above party, I would like to suggest that an Orphanage in Bristol was run by a man called George Muller. In 1832 he went to Bristol, where he found an open door, chiefly in Bethesda Chapel, a Plymouth brethren chapel. More can be found in a chapter on George Muller in a book called 'chief men among the Brethren' compiled by Hy. Pickering, published by Pickering and Inglis Ltd, England. Also look up George Muller in Google. There is considerable information about him and his work there. Hope this helps. Margaret J. Brien #12562

    3. Hi Listers: I have recently discovered my connection to BLACKMANs of Brighton. My great-aunt, Amelia WEST, married Frederick George BLACKMAN in 1911. The only child that I can find for them is Doris M. BLACKMAN b. 1913. Did Doris have siblings? I do have a family grouping of Edmund BLACKMAN, wife Eliza MARCHANT and their six children, including Frederick George, all born in Brighton, but that's about it. Does anyone please have any knowledge of the BLACKMAN family? June SFHG 12496

    3. Alan: Sorry for delay in replying to your message but my e-mail provider has been out for some days and then I had to clear about 200 SPAM messages. Your information about Mary Ann Dyer being a widow at marriage and being born Mary Ann Sample daughter of Paul Sample confuses things. It puts out of the picture the 2 Mary A Dyer cooks (Clifton 1881 and Weybridge 1871) as both are listed as unmarried. I can find no Paul Sample listed in England or Scotland censuses 1841 to 1861. The only likely Mary Ann Sample listed was born in Berwickshire at about the right time but married a Nakepeace and died soon after. I can find no English marriage of a Mary Sample to a Dyer. I cannot access marriage indexes for Scotland. Could she possibly have been married 3 times in all? The only thing I can suggest is that if she was married in church you might find more information from when the Banns were issued. Maybe an SFHG member in the Chichester area could check this out for you if you put detail of the marriage date and church on the list. Regards, John Cain 10370
