    3. The West Sussex Library Service has a copy catalogued under their reference E300045646 . The title of the book, per the Catalogue, is "Witterings then and Now: West Wittering". There is a copy at Chichester Library and Worthing Library, both in the reference section, so you cannot borrow them. You don't say where you live, so I don't know whether either library is accessible to you. However, I hope to be in Chichester on Saturday and I could obtain a photocopy of the page for you then. If you don't get a better offer, send me an E-mail to woolgar@one-name.org by 18.00 BST on Friday and I will put a note on my file for Saturday. Best wishes Marion Woolgar Bognor Regis, West Sussex SFHG NO: 3323

    2. Deborah Montgomerie
    3. Vic, When was George born? Have you tried looking for other spelling of Housely Hously, Housley, Howsley? Also Lower may be spelt Louer. In the a2a records I found 2 mentions to a Thomas Hously (note spelling) in the East Sussex records. Also in www.familysearch.org an Elizabeth Divall is shown to be married to James Lower in Alfriston (very near Seaford). They were both born in Alfriston. This record is in the Ancestral File and the submitter if you wish to write to her is Lynne H Shumway, 263 E 400 S, Orem, UT, USA 84058. Debbie -----Original Message----- From: sfhg-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:sfhg-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of vic phillips Sent: Tuesday, July 08, 2008 11:24 AM To: SFHG-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SFHG] Does anyone know Thomas Housely Dear All, I am stuck at a brickwall of the origins of my GGGgrandfather George Lower. I found a very likely Lower family in Seaford where according to census my George Lower was born. If I am right his father James Lower a carrier died in 1814 in Seaford. His mother Elizabeth Lower nee Devall remarried on 24 June 1818 in Bishopstone nr. Seaford to Thomas Housely a widower of "this parish". I can find no other records of Thomas Housely in that area. I have found a Death record of a Thomas Housely 11 July 1833 in Rye Baptist. But I cannot find a record of Elizabeth Housely after the marriage. I was hoping to find the whereabouts of Elizabeth Housely and maybe a clue to a link to my George Lower. If anyone can help as to any Housely records I would very much appreciate it. 1. [SFHG] Family Treemaker vs Reunion and More on Certificates
    2. Warwick & Eleanor Dilley
    3. Dear All, Many thanks to those who have responded to me about family tree stuff on Mac. Has anyone moved from FTM on Windows to Reunion? If so, is it possible to transfer the information already on FTM to Reunion, or do you have to re-enter everything from scratch? (We have the two computers set up so that we can access information - photographs, documents etc that are on Windows - and pull it across to the Mac.) Second topic, reverting to a discussion from a while ago about how long it takes to get certificates now - I'm going for a record here with one ordered on 27 May and still not arrived. Nothing daunted, I sent off for a few more a couple of days ago, one of which was a death in 2001, ie the new system of numbering. Last night in came an email saying it couldn't be processed and refunding the 7 pounds. It has gone off again, but this time with a district number as well as the name (Torbay). This number doesn't appear on the Ancestry information for a death certificate, but we found it on FindMyPast. I've got my fingers cross that this was what was needed, but I thought I should let others know that Ancestry appears to be missing something the system now requires. Regards, Eleanor 11833

    3. You might like to look at the Mid-Kent Marriages Index 1754 to 1911 in the hope of finding a new lead. This is an impressive finding aid to marriages in an area of Kent where research has been difficult in the past because of the paucity of indexed material. The searches are free at http://www.woodchurchancestry.org.uk/midkentmarriages . Best wishes Marion Woolgar Bognor Regis, West Sussex SFHG NO: 3323

    3. Hi everyone A few years ago when I was looking into the family history I was in contact with a lady in Australia called Heather LORD who was very helpful as she shared some of the family names in Westfield and Brede. Having now taken up my research again I have attempted to contact her but the email has bounced back. I am sending this so that if she is out there somewhere she might see this and get in contact please. Thanks you Eileen Austin (Turrell) 12765

    1. [SFHG] PARSONS -East Sussex and West Kent
    2. Eileen Austin
    3. Hello everyone For many years I have been looking into my husbands family including the PARSONS name in Westfield and Brede. I am looking for information on John PARSONS and Martha FULLER who married, probably at Beckley in Kent as that was where their first born John was born in 1777. Also, in my own family, we have PARSONS, from around the Romney Marsh, Tenterden, Penshurst area. I have only just embarked upon this, line, and only for interest really, just to find out whether, if I go back far enough, my husbands line and my own family line meet up somewhere in the dark and distant past. If anone can throw any light on these folks I would be most appreciative. Thank you Eileen & Ken Turrell 12764/5

    1. [SFHG] Thomas Young - Mayor of Hastings
    2. PMR
    3. Hello Listers A 9 x ggm was Ann YOUNG d/o Thomas YOUNG, baptised in St Clement's Hastings on 1 Dec 1579. The problem is sorting out which Thomas YOUNG was her father and which Thomas YOUNG was Mayor of Hastings. I suspect that her father was NOT the Mayor of Hastings, but I need to know a bit more about him in order to be sure. I have found a marriage on the SMI in Rye in 1576 of Thomas YOUNG aka VYNES. This **may** be my 10 x ggf, but I'm not sure about that either. Can anyone help with any info on Thomas YOUNG the Mayor please? Any ideas on 'aka VYNES' would also be appreciated. Many thanks. 1. [SFHG] Sussex Marriage Index and Mac
    2. Bryan Pannett
    3. >Hello Listers, I make these comments as a Mac user, not as an expert. Firstly, nothing in the computer world ever stays still and it is difficult to keep up with changes in both hardware and software. The new generations of both enable people to do things not possible even 12 months ago. Software: I have used a number of versions of Reunion up to V9 for a number of years and found it a good basic programme, relatively simple to use and stable. Lets face it, for a long time there was nothing else for the Mac. But there is now another programme available called MacFamilyTree 5 which can be downloaded. For more information go to http://www.synium.de/products/macfamilytree/index.html It claims to be the most advanced genealogy application for the Mac and is also GEDCOM compatible. Hardware: The latest models of the Mac fitted with G5 Intel processors come loaded with the programme "Boot Camp" which allows users to boot into Windows and which provides basic compatibility. However, possibly a better alternative is to use programmes such as VMware "Fusion" or "Parallels" which allow Windows and Mac OS X to operate simultaneously. One pays ones money and takes ones pick! I hasten to add that I have had no experience with the programmes mentioned under hardware. Regards, >Bryan 11480 > >Dear Corinne, > >I know how you feel. 3. Hello Listers I have had an email from a stranger saying that he (or they) had bought a domain name as it had expired. The domain name - BallFamilyRecords - belongs (or belonged) to a distant cousin of mine who lives near Norwich, a man very dedicated to family history, and a most meticulous researcher. I haven't had a reply to my latest email to him, which was a couple of months ago now, and this info about the domain name expiring causes me some concern. Is anyone able to check, please?
