Peter, You can insert pictures into Word quite simply ("insert/picture/from file") and you can use "format picture" to fix its position in the text. I do this all the time. It would save you having to create a database, as Word is easily searchable for text using the "find" function. That sounds good. I should think it would work with a word-processing table or a spreadsheet as well. Dear Peter, One way that you could do it is by making putting your list into Microsoft Access and then adding a column with a hyperlink to the scanned images which you presumably have in another file. I have just discovered how to do this and it seems to work all right! With all good wishes, Sue Djabri ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Cox" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, October 09, 2012 8:00 AM Subject: [SFHG] Picture database > Dear All, > > I have a largish number of family pictures/portraits/postcards and > although > I have listed the subjects using 'Word' I would like to put them, with > their > scanned image, into a searchable database. > > I am not looking for anything other than a simple piece of software. Dear All, I have a largish number of family pictures/portraits/postcards and although I have listed the subjects using 'Word' I would like to put them, with their scanned image, into a searchable database. I am not looking for anything other than a simple piece of software. I have been using Brothers Keeper since 'DOS' days and that is about my level of requirement. Can anybody suggest a suitable programme? Thanks in anticipation, Peter Cox 655

Has anyone joined a One Name Study and, if so, please could you advise as to the pros and cons (before I sign up to something I may regret!) Diana Burns No. 9914
Dear list, I am firstly sorry that this will not apply to many of you...BUT....I hope to get the message out. The hall where we meet in Hove; "Ventnor Hall" will have no heating this Wednesday....so do wrap up warm if you intend to come along. The boiler has failed.....and it will not be repaired before we meet. Please do pass this on to people who you know might turn up. The rest of you keep warm...wherever you are! Mick Henry (Chair Brighton & Hove Meeting Centre)

Thanks to those who sent me the info on Ambrose. Only trouble is- the info says he died in 1790 when I have him dying in 1794! Another mystery to sort out. Ruth, Ontario,Canada
Dear All I thought this might be of interest to some of you. We receive a copy of a newsletter from WSCC called Connections, in the latest issue there are two things of interest to researchers. The first, West Sussex Record Office are offering a research package (I'm afraid I don't know how much) of a three hour one-to-one guidance from expert and experienced researchers combined with accomodation at a local hotel. The other item of interest is that they are looking for volunteers to research lives of local soldiers, nurses and other people involved in the Great War. If anyone is interested in viewing these articles they can be found on the WSCC website, by putting Connections in the search box and it's issue 49, September, and they are on page 13. I hope someone finds this useful. Jane Shergold
Hi Ruth, Heather Warne, "Wivelsfield, the History of a Wealden Parish" (1994) published by Pier Point Publishing & Wivelsfield History Study Group, £9.95 (possibly still to be obtained from Sussex Archaeological Society) page: 92. "In 1751 Ambrose Gallard, a carpenter, paid Samuel Smith's nephew and heir £85 for Gunns, but had to take out a mortgage for £60 at 4% interest. Ambrose died in 1791". The property is now called Jenners, a two storey house of three unequal bays with a large internal brick-built chimney (illustration on same page, circa 1600. Trust this will help you. Unfortunately this request arrived just too late for the latest SussexLink. Would anyone interested get in touch with me and I will send them Claire's contact details. I am working on a project for Remembrance Sunday with a top genealogy website. We are looking for families with WW1 stories that we can look in to, and who can appear in our online video. We are hoping to get in contact specifically with people who have medals which a family member received in one of the many battles of WW1, but they don't know what the family member did to be awarded it, or stories which have been passed down the generations. We could help them to look in to their family history to discover what happened. Would anyone in your society have a WW1 story that they would like us to look in to, and would they like to feature in our online video? I would be very grateful for any help you could give me. Kind regards, Claire Claire Primrose | Researcher ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, a careless typo, it is actually 1651. Cathy -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Wyn Sent: 03 October 2012 04:59 To: [email protected] Subject: [SFHG] Woolven Several years ago I was given a copy of a "Woolven" family tree from a member (as I thought) of the 'Woolven One Name Group'. After recent correspondence with another researcher I have reason to doubt some of its content, and thought I would check back with the group only to find it does not exist now. I am trying to find the parents of Richard Woolvin born 1650-1656 in (I believe) West Grinstead. I have believed his parents to be Richard & Anne but recent contacts have suggested Richard & Leah. I do know that the PR Transcript for West Grinstead show a birth for a Richard in 1851 to Richard & Leah but I am wondering if anybody else has this family in their tree and can confirm this for me. I need to sort this question out as if my earlier information is wrong I lose 4 generations of ancestors, but I would rather lose them than claim them incorrectly.
