    3. Hello Heather. In 1911 he is a caretaker living at The Watch House, Chideock, Dorset, with wife Harriet. Married 7 years, no children. She is aged 35, born Haslingfield Cambridgeshire. 3. I quite agree the Electoral Registers are the best bet. Obviously having an address is a good thing to have otherwise it is hard work!!! I went to the Portmouth Central Library earlier this year to look at the E.R reg's going back to the 1940-1960's and then onto Fareham Borough Council because the family I have been researching have moved to that area. Portmouth C.L. also have years of phone books covering a lot of the county. In more recent years 'we' can opt out and therefore the edited version of the Electoral Roll are held at places like the Fareham Library. The 'full version' will be held at the Borough Council and I believe is accessible to the public where ever you go. But only in person, not over the phone. You may have to make an appointment at the Borough Council Offices should you need to go down that route. Good luck Patricia Veal 15228

    3. Heather,   I think your best chance of tracing Horace and Ada will be the electoral registers, though I'm not sure how to go about locating them - perhaps others listers know?   Neal ________________________________ From: Heather Brooks <[email protected]> To: SUSSEX PLUS PLUS <[email protected]>; [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, 28 November 2012, 8:22 Subject: [SFHG] Finding a surname Hi, the Harvey family lived at 1, Bransbury Road, Portsmouth from about the 1950s. 3. The SMI only covers as far as 1850, Roger. But I can confirm that a James Denyer married a Martha Nightingale in 1870. The marriage was registered in Brighton in Q3 of 1870 --- volume 2b, page 372. Hi Chris,   I found her via her son Henry.  They are living at 17 William Street.  On Ancestry they are under the name of Heather and Ann's year of birth is given as 1793 born Brighton.  On Find My Past they are under the name of Hoather.   Pretty certain it's your Ann even though the birthplace is wrong - hope so anyway!   Sally-Ann ________________________________ From: Chris Annis <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, 27 November 2012, 11:50 Subject: [SFHG] HOATHER, BRIGHTON Hi, Can anyone help me trace Ann Hoather nee Edstrom in the 1861 Census of Brighton please. 3. Does anyone know anything about the Bradshaw Family of Crawley Down? William Bradshaw bought Down Park in 1901, and his wife Dora continued to live there after his death. The house was sold and divided when she died in 1959. Two sons were killed during the First World War. There were other children; at least a son and a daughter. I would especially like to know what happened to any surviving children after the house was sold off. Thanks, Vee Willis Horsham

    3. I have been trying to trace the whereabouts of Henry Pearson Lithgow, born Sep Q 1874 in E.Preston for some years.   He disappears after the 1881 census (Brighton).   I have not been able to find either a marriage or a death/burial for him. Another person also trying to trace him  found a Percy Lithgow, age 23. 2nd Royal Sussex Regiment, Bengal Command. Died of disease 19.2.1898 Nowshera (Nowkhaar) Khyber, Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan, from the 1896-1900 Army Returns. From this, I ordered the death certificate and this has shown little information from the above, apart from his Rank and Rgt.No. Pte.Sd./4291 and he died of Enteric Fever. If anybody can give me an idea of where to look next, I would be very grateful.   I understand the Royal Sussex Regiments archives are at W.S.Record Office and intend to visit as soon as I am able, but wonder if anyone might know of where there may be any more information. I should add, that we have found no birth for a Percy Lithgow of this age and are hoping that he and Henry Pearson are the same person.

    1. Re: [SFHG] Marriage licence
    2. Marion Woolgar
    3. The Marriage Licence was probably granted in the Lewes Archdeaconry. There are surviving licences that were granted in 1799 and they have been calendared & indexed in Sussex Record Society volumes 25 & 26. If you find the item that you want and need to see the original bond or allegation, if memory serves me correctly, they are all at the West Sussex Record Office in Chichester and are on microfilm. I am unsure whether a copy of the films is at the East Sussex Record Office, but they were certainly filmed by the LDS. So, if you intend to make a visit, do telephone first to make sure. Note that marriage licences were also granted by the Faculty Office and the Vicar General and those records are in Lambeth Palace Library. The FFHS used to publish a very useful booklet about Bishops' Transcripts and Marriage Licences. It's probably out-of-print, but you might find a copy in record offices & libraries. Yes, some marriage licences do give extra detail that is useful to family historians - but not all. Best wishes, Marion Woolgar Bognor Regis, West Sussex SFHG Member No: 3323
