    1. William Se(a)ver(s) Washington Co, VA
    2. Patricia M. Seaver
    3. For some time a number of descendants of William Se(a)ver(s) of southwest VA and northeast TN in the early 1800s have been trying to prove that William was closely related to Jacob Seaver of Washington/Scott Co, VA and Switzerland Co, IN (and therefore also to Jacob's sister Elizabeth Seaver Lamar and brother John). We had a good deal of circumstantial evidence but no proof. (I will be happy to share that circumstantial evidence with anyone who contacts me directly. ***Please note that this is NOT the William Seavers @1752-1852 who married Catherine Peck in VA and moved to Knox/Anderson, TN and much later to Nodaway, MO. It may well be that the two Williams were related--perhaps cousins or uncle/nephew. Yesterday I came across the following entry in an article in The Historical Society of Washington County, VA Publication Series II No. 21 May 1984 p. 13: "Nov. 16 1814 Michael Decherd named guardian of Joseph Seavers, orphan of William Seavers, deceased. Bond: 4400 Surety: Jacob Seavers" To my knowledge, this is the first direct link that has been found between William and Jacob. We had previously estimated William Seavers' DoD as 1817 based on guardianship records beginning in 1818 found in Wythe Co, VA for some of William's other children. It is now apparent that William died before November 1814. A family Bible and census records indicate that William's older children were born in the mid 1790s. Both William and Jacob are found in land and tax records of Washington Co, VA, Scott Co, VA (formed from Washington in 1814) in the 1790s and early 1800s. In addition to William and Jacob, there are records in this area at the same time for a George and a Samuel Se(a)ver(s). -- Patricia Moorefield Seaver Knoxville, Tennessee (formerly of Williamsville, New York)
