was in the l840 Census of Williamson Co TN. Anyone know how he fits into anything? The l850 Census of TN (Davidson Co )shows Fielding age 41 with wife Nancy age 36 and children Wm l8, Clinton 16, Corns l4,Jas ll, Susan 8, alger S 6, Joel A B 4. Both Parents born in VA. Had they been born in TN they woudl be suspect of belonging to Wm Severs and Catherine Peck but that is less likely with a VA birth if correct. There was a George Severs 110001-10001 and a James Severs 0001-1001 in the Anderson Co l830 census. any thoughts that they might have been sons of Wm Severs and Catherine Peck? A George Severs was found in the court records (He was a witness) in Breckinridge Co Ky about l846. Another son of Wm Severs and Catherine Peck lived there at the time (was he visiting a brother--or is this coincidental)? George is a common name among the Ohio Severs and I am unable to determine the origin of that family. It woudl seem logical that they would be related to Robert Seaver of Roxbury MA but it is unknown. There is a Sever and a Severe family who believe they hail from Robert born about l600 Charles Severs
Re Fielding Seavers from _The Lost Children of Wythe County, Virginia 1790-1878_ by Mary B. Kegley 1995, p. 137: Court Order Book March 9, 1829 "Fielding Seavors, an illegitimate child over 14 years of age, chose Michael Moyers his guardian. Security on the bond, John Foster for Michael Moyers, Jr. The bond says the child is under age 14." The court order is certainly unclear as to Fielding's age--he was either over or under 14 years old in 1829! The Fielding of the Davidson Co. census would have had a DoB of approximately 1809. If that age is accurate, he would have been 20 in 1820 and not the subject of a court order dealing with a guardian. However, the name is unusual, and I have seen many cases of ages varying widely from one census to the next. From Virginia Historic Marriage Register Wythe County Marriages, p. 98: Seavers, Fielding & Nancy Camp 12 Mar 1829; min- L.L. Marshall 1 jan 1830 I don't know what to make of the two different dates in the marriage record. Usually one is the license or bond and the other is the date of the ceremony, but the two dates usually aren't so far apart. Also, note that the 12 mar 1829 is only 3 days after the court order. Their oldest child is Wm. 18=DoB about 1832. Other Seaver, Seavers, Seivers, Severs entries in the Lost Children book appear to be from the children and grandchildren of a William Severs who died in 1817 (definitely a different William from the one who married Catherine Peck), leaving minor (and adult) children in Wythe Co, VA. I believe that William was closely related to the Jacob Seaver who married Esther Croberger. What was the protocol back then for illegitimate children? Did they take the mother's maiden name or the father's surname or did the practice vary?
