I just got back from a trip to Jefferson and Washington Counties, IL to research my Severs. I can now prove that James M. Severs had a son James. James M.'s son, James' mother is Barbra Sanders. I got this proof from the Family history Center film of marriages in Jefferson Co., IL for James Severs marriage to Sirena Smith 1891. It names James' parents as James M. Severs and Barbra Sanders. This record is missing from the Jefferson Co., IL courthouse. I looked two boxes before and after the proper box and the tenth box before and after. I had found reference to this marriage in one index at the library in Jefferson Co. but not in two others. It really does pay to look at many different kinds of resources. I had heard that James M. had two wives. The first wife died before they came to Washington Co., IL. The second wife was supposed to have married after arriving to IL. The person that told me this couldn't tell me her documentation for this info or how she knows this. But I do know that James was born in IL 1827. There is a grave for Barbary Severs born and died 1854. She is next to James M. Severs. Is she the child of Abram (born 1820 IN) whose grave is close by or the daughter of the Younger James? Is she named after Abram's mother or Stepmother? These are just questions to think about. At least, we now have one wife for James M. Severs. More to explore, I know there are Sanders in Washington &/or Jefferson Co., IL. Are there any in Posey Co., IN? If there are, then James M. could have married Barbra in IN or IL. James M. was in Washington Co., IL by 1824. I also have further evidence that Elam and Nancy Milam may be the parents of Rebecca Dubois Severs. I found the probate record of Elam and Abram and Rebecca aren't heirs because Nancy is still alive but, their names are in the record. I wonder why I can't find Nancy's probate record? The Sever's and Milam's are in Washington Co., IL then they both go to Jefferson Co. together. They go to the sames church and are buried together in the same area and now all these same names are in the probate of Elam. Could all of this be coincidence?
