Charles, the George Severs in Posey Co., IN wasn't in the 1830 or 1840 census not even as a possible tick mark with his sons Lorenzo or Francis. I believe he died about or before 1830. I have his birth date between 1730- 1768. His known eldest son James M. Severs was born 1788 in NC/TN. TN didn't become a state until 1796. So I couldn't say whether he was the witness or not. response to your previous letter. George Severs b. bet. 1730-1768. Lorenzo's wife's name was Patterson? James did marry a Barbara/Barbary Sanders, there is no marriage record to prove when or where. This came from his son's marriage record to Serena (McMillan) Smith which stated his parents names. This could be James M. second marriage. I was in Ashley IL and talked to a relative there that told this to me. She couldn't prove it. This could be family lore. James M. Severs probabley also had the following Children. - Mary b. abt. 1824 m. Crittenden Smith. wrote a letter for the Tate pension. THere is also a marriage record. James b. 1827 I don't know much about. He married possibly twice, because his marriage to Serena wasn't until 1891. I do have this marriage record Barbary Severs b. 1854 I thought was Abram's daughter. She is buried with his family. I can't prove it one way or the other. Catherine Severs b. 1818 d. 1888 she is buried in the Odd Fellows cem. Jefferson Co. m.1837 to Samuel Tate in Washington Co., IL. Their child is George W. Tate. Catherine also had Sarah. According to Samuel's pension application he died 1847 in Mex. and his only named child was George. Sarah was never mentioned. We believe she is illegitimate. Probable reason her last name being Severs at marriage. Kathy
