I have some info on a Jacob Severs. I don't know if he fits into the Jacob that is being discused at the moment, but here is what I have. Jacob Severs selling land in Sullivan Co., TN 1807. Jacob Severs and wife Cynthia selling land in Posey Co., IN 1826 to Joseph Dixon " " " " " " " " " " to Polly Cavender I believe this is the same person from TN- IN because I have been researching George Severs and he was also selling land in Sullivan Co., TN and bought land in Posey Co., IN within a few years of each other. Actually Posey Co. wasn't a county yet. They would have bought land in either Warrick or Knox Co. So far I haven't been able to find the IN land purchases. I hope this helps someone. Kathy Pugh
Kathy, This is very interesting. I have wondered what happened to the George Severs who was buying and selling land and on tax rolls in Sullivan Co, TN in the very late 1700s and early 1800s, and then just disappears. It would make sense that he might be related to Jacob, who shows up at about the same time in land and tax records in Sullivan, TN, Hawkins, TN and Scott, VA (which borders both Sullivan, TN & Hawkins, TN). However, the Jacob with wife Cynthia selling land in Posey Co. must be a different man. The Jacob of Scott Co, VA & Switzerland Co, IN was married to Esther (Hetty) Croberger (her parents are another connection with Hawkins Co, TN). Jacob of Scott, VA/Switzerland, IN is thought to have died in the mid 1820s. Hetty is in the 1830 Switzerland, IN census, as I recall. Note also that Posey Co. and Switzerland Co. IN are at opposite corners of IN. Perhaps the Jacob who was in Posey Co. was one of the other Jacobs from the 1820 list I posted. I need to look at the A.I.S. for 1830 to see which of the Jacobs were still in the same places and which were missing. I am interested in anything you find on George Severs, because I believe the George who was in Sullivan, TN may have been related to William, who died in Wythe Co. VA in 1817 (the line I am researching). I also believe that William was related to Jacob. At any rate, the three of them were in the Hawkins-Sullivan-Scott area at the same time or had connections of one kind or another in those three counties. By the way, I don't know the details, but there was a border dispute between VA and TN along the Sullivan Co, TN/Scott Co, VA border, which may have extended along the Hawkins/Scott border as well. Therefore, some early land records which are today in Sullivan, TN may have been in Scott, VA or vice-versa. It's probably a good idea to search both counties.
