I have two land records of Jacob and Cynthia Severs. The first one was dated April 1826 and sold to Polly Cavender. The land description: 20 Acres of the Sough end of the NE fractional quarter of fractional Section N7 Twp #8, South of range #13 W in Posey County, IN. Cynthia had been examined separately from her husband and voluntarily sold the land. Does anyone know if Polly is related to Jacob? The second record is dated April 1826 and sold to Joseph Dixon. The land description: Forty Six Acres and forty seven hundredths of an acre in the N end of the NE fractional quarter off fractional Sectarian #7 in Twp #8 south of the Base line in Range #13 W of the second principal meridian of the lands directed to be sold at Vincennes, IN and includes all of the said fractional quarter except 20 acre belonging to Polly Cavender. Signed by Jacob and Cynthia and witnessed by JP Drake? and Polly Cavender. Cynthia had been examined separately from her husband and voluntarily sold the land. I am hoping that Jacob is the brother to my George Severs. I have a George and Jacob in Sullivan Co.,NC/TN buying and selling land between 1796 and 1814. And I have a George and Jacob selling land in Posey Co., IN between 1824 and 1826. I can't prove that these two men are the same men in Sullivan, Co. NC/TN and Posey Co., IN. Jacob, George and James are in the Posey Co., 1820 census. In the 1830 census there is Francis and Lorenzo Dow, known, sons of George in Posey Co., IN. James is presumed son of George and is in the 1830 Washington Co.,IL census. No Jacob in Posey Co., IN census. In the 1840 Census, Francis is in Posey Co, LD is in Mecklenburg, KY and can't find James. Lorenzo Dow did sell his land in Posey Co.,IN 1833. The ages do match up for the Lorenzo Dow in 1830 census to LD in the 1840 Mecklenburg census. The 1850 census Francis is still in Posey Co, James is in Jefferson Co.,IL and can't find LD or Lorenzo Dow. Kathy Pugh
I don't believe that the Jacob Se(a)ver(s) who bought and sold land in Sullivan Co, TN was the Jacob Severs who settled in Posey Co, IN. Here's why: Jacob Seaver of Sullivan Co. and Hawkins Co, TN and Scott Co. (cut from Washington Co.), VA married Esther (Hetty) Croberger. Jacob Seaver is found in the Scott Co, VA census in 1820. Scott Co., VA borders Sullivan Co. and Hawkins Co, TN. Jacob & his family moved to Switzerland Co, IN in 1820*. Jacob died sometime between 1820 and 1830; Hetty is found in the Switzerland Co, IN census in 1830. They had 13 children, 12 of whom were born in VA.* Although I think it's unlikely that the Jacob of Posey Co., IN was the Jacob of Sullivan Co, TN, I do think it's worth exploring. Kathy, what are the sexes and genders of the Jacob Severs family in the 1820 Posey Co. census? Here are the children of Jacob and Esther as given by the descendants of their youngest son: William @1800, Jeremiah 1801, Henry 1803, Joseph 1805, George 1807, Melinda 1808, Elizabeth 1812, Mary 1812 (twins), Jacob 1814, Benjamin F. 1816, John C. 1818, Esther Susanna 1820, Greenberry 1823. The Jacob Seaver family of Scott Co, VA 1820 matches the age & gender categories of the children listed above. Wouldn't it be interesting if the Posey Co. family did, too??? Pat Seaver Note: *The Jesse Seaver history states that the family moved to Switzerland Co. between 1815-1820. It gives the DoBs above, but states that all of the children were born in Switzerland Co. If the family had moved between 1815-1820, only the youngest four could have been born in IN. Since the family was in the 1820 Scott Co, VA census, it is more likely that they moved after Esther Susanna was born in 1820. >I have two land records of Jacob and Cynthia Severs. > >The first one was dated April 1826 and sold to Polly Cavender.
