    1. Sarah Catherine Severs

    3. I am searching for any info on Sarah Catherine Severs. She was born in Eastern Tn around the 1850s. I do not know her parents names, but she was one of a family of 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls. I only know that one brother was J W Severs, his wife was Bennie Severs and they had 4 children Hugh, Bernice, Lurline and Kate. At one time they lived in Marked Tree, Arkansas, and then Memphis, Tn. Sarah Catherine married John Henry Bailey also of Eastern Tn and they migrated to Huntsville, Al. (Madison Co.). Sarah Catherine and John Henry had 5 children, I only know 2 names John Wesley and Mary. Anything I can find would be appreciated. Betty Bailey (BebandJon@AOL.com)

I was unable to find the Sivert but it is likely that the spelling variants would make him one of the two listed above. I have an unproven theory that my William Severs born l752 was really Johannes Wilhelm Siebert a deserter from the vonWissenbach troops from Savanna GA July l782 but am unable to prove it. His father was Jost Siebert, mother Anna Rodin, and his uncle was Johannes Wilhelm Siebert. There was a rumor about a Hessian in my family legend and he is the only possibility. Charles Severs

    3. l. VA TN MO KY AL AR.. William Severs born l751/2 married Catherine Peck in Montgomery Co VA and lived in Knox/Anderson Co TN and children branched out from there. died l852 at age l00/l0l. Over 200 descendants known. Looking for proof of his ancestry and for children of Wm and Catherine other than Daniel, Jacob, John, William, and Mary Polly. James and George Severs born about l800-l9l0 and lived in Anderson County TN are suspect. 2.KY-IA---- William Porter Severs born early l800's in Kentucky-illigitimate son of Dr. Geroge Kincaid and housemaid, Cynthia Barnett. He was adopted by a stepfather named Severs, probably from the family of Frederick Severs of Muhlenberg Co Ky. Married McPherson and lived in Apanoose Co IA about 200 descendants recorded. Book by Whittlesby "The Severs Clan a Celebration of Life" 3. Muhlenberg Co KY (earlier VA). Frederick Severs --Rev War soldier anmed Schaffer changed to Severs and died in l802 in Muhlenberg Co over l00 Desc. recorded 4. Family of Heinrich Harn Severs and Mettie Bruins NC or SC and written of in a book by Sossamon. They emigrated about l840 and about l00 desc recorded. 5. Roxbury Mass family of Robert Seaver emigrated very early (about 1650 ) and responsible for a Majority of the families named Seaver in the NE USA and featured i a book by Jesse Montgomery Seaver l924 (along with several othe spelling variants. Most of Descendants are Seaver but some are Sever and Severs and Severe (book on this spelling) 6. Sever family of Waldron INdiana. I believe these are connected to the Robert Seaver family but am not sure at this point. Book may still be in print. about 100 descendants. 7. Sevier family of VA TN . Wm and Valentine Severs/Sevier emigrated before the Rev War and son of Valentine was Gen John Sevier of Rev War Fame for "retreating when expected to advance and Advancing when he was expected to retreat. First Governor of TN. He wanted to have a Southern USA named FRANKLIN as he could see the Civil war brewing along the lines of Slavery and Plantation life and felt that the country should be separated along those lines. He was branded a Traitor but his Rev War Record carried him through. about 200 Desc mostly named Sevier. Excellent book by Madden and Armstrong. Another book by Armstrong covering Wm and Valentine Severs/Sevier. Book is well indexed. Possibly you have identified others and would like to outline them in a separate letter to the List. I have a copy of each of the books listed. If copyright laws did not prohibit I would be glad to make them available for anyone who might have a method of republishing on CD ROM , Web sites, and the like. I believe most of the authors are interested in Genealogical recording and research and, if alive, would be willing to grant permission. Madden , Armstrong, Sossamon, and Wm Sever seem to still be available. Seaver, Whittlesby/McPherson are deceased, I believe. Anyone aware of any other books that are useful for research on Severs genealogy please make them known on this list. There is a compilation of Severs material by Roger Gillems, who apparently subscribes to this list. It is an outline of his family lineange and a compilation of other sources. Possibly he would outline this material to the list and consider making a special purchase arrangment for the readers of this list (about 35 of them). The Seaver book by J M Seaver has, also, been remade on CD ROM for about $20 and is available from a member of this list as well. If you ask on the list, I will ask the author of these references to reply to you via the list or privately at their choice. Year : 1820 Page # : 144 You must remember that these Census materials were partly destroyed for many years and places and it is not always possible to trace someone from census to census from the time they were born to the time they died. The Census up to l850 (not including l850) listed only heads of households (mostly for tax purposes) and did not list children except in age brackets. They did not appear at any special age unless they were a head of household or the Husband had died in which case the wife was shown as head of household. Another point is that children might appear in Orphans Court if the father died (very likely in that case) and not if the mother died. Dont forget Orphans Courts if the male head of household died and there were minor aged children. Some places did not have orphans courts but LOOK. Charles Severs

Daniel H Severs (in Blount Co AR) is son of Wm and Catherine. John and William Jr. are still living in Anderson Co and are proven children. Jacob Peck Severs was in Kentucky by that time but not listed in the Census. He does show in the early (l832) City Directory of Louisville, Ky, however. James and George are unproven children but likely candidates. Mary "Polly" Severs had married Wm Lamar in l8ll and is also listed in this census but only by age. There may be some others that are recognizable. Jeremiah Severs in Hawkins Co TN may be the Jeremiah who was son of Jacob Seaver of Botetout Co VA or another Jeremiah who was born within 6 years of the first Jeremiah.
