Unfortunetly, I didn't see the name I was looking for. My family is predominately "Ewen" & "Rhodes", but my great-great grandmother was said to be a "Severs". Her name was Ann, born in 1838, in Kendal. She married William Rhodes and had abt 8 children. William was a draper in Kendal. I beleive that she died abt 1895. They lived, at that time, in a house called "Thorns" in Underbarrow, from what I understand it's now a guesthouse called "Greenriggs". In the 1881 census there was a Pearson family living at Thorns. So my family must have moved to the house in the late 1880's, because my grand father was born there. Would you know anything about an Ann Severs? or even Rhodes for that matter? Thank you so much for your help! I'm hoping someday I'll get over to Kendal to research all of these things! Nancy.

I have SEAVERS/SEVERS from Yorkshire in my line. The first three children of George SEAVERS and Jane COLLEY of Alne, Yorkshire were christened in the parish register as SEAVERS and the last three were listed as SEVERS. When my gggmother, Mary, the youngest, who born in 1810, married in Easingwold, Yorkshire, in 1848 she was back to a SEAVERS in the parish register. This seemed to go according to how the different vicars spelled it. We were always told to pronounce it as SEVERS although we spelled it SEAVERS. It turned out to be a Dinner theater and Dennis was a relative of a Kentucky Severs family Desc of an illigitimate son of a Dr George Kincaid and a housemaid named Cynthia Barnett. Cynthia married a Severs (apparently from the family of Frederick Severs, a Revolutionary War Soldier) who adopted him, fathered a couple more children, and disappeared. The son was William Porter Severs who fathered a Clan of Severs and lived in Apanoose Co IA in the USA. Possibly you could write Severs-L-request at rootsweb.com and say subscribe (one word only) and then Write your querry to Severs-L@rootsweb.com. You should also explain the prevalance of Seaver and Severs in the UK as most Seaver in the US seem to be of English origin and most Severs/Sever seem to be of Germanic Origin. During the English period (pre 1776) many German and other names were changed to Seaver as that seemed to be the common English spelling.

bonded the marriage of Ephriam Repas to Mary Haymore in Grainger Co TN in l829. If he was related to the family of Wm Severs and Catherine Peck of Anderson Co TN he would have been one of their children. I found a Joseph Severs in the Court records of Breckinridge Co KY about l850. He had been a witness in a court case. Breckinridge Co was the residence of Jacob Peck Severs who was born l809 and son of Wm Severs and Catherine Peck. I suspect Joseph was another brother of that family along with William, John, Mary Polly, and Daniel H Severs . Wm and John went to MO about l840-50. Mary Polly married William Lamar and lived in Anderson Co TN, Daniel H Severs lived in Madison Co AL and died in Phillips Co AR where he had gone to live with his daughter (who had married a Tiller).
