    1. Re: 1880 Census LDS
    2. Patricia M. Seaver
    3. An observation about the 1880 census on CD-ROM... I spent some time searching them at an LDS Family History Center a few months ago. I found John Henry Seaver transcribed as Sevier. I couldn't find my Waits family at all, but I knew they had to be there. Finally in desperation I searched under a surname that I knew was a neighbor--found my Allen Waits transcribed as Allen Wails. Soundex would never catch that. This also points up the importance of seeing the actual census image. Indexes and transcriptions are essential tools of research, and there are definite advantages to being able to see the surnames in alphabetical order, but it's just as essential to see the image. Even the best transcribers sometimes made errors or simply were unable to decipher what was written. Just the fact that we each have information about our families that a transcriber could not possibly have makes looking at the image a crucial step. 1. 1880 Census LDS
    2. the LDS (Bless them) has produced a 50 CD 1880 Census (for $50--what a bargain). It searches by soundex which is a little anoying on Severs s-162 but it produces some surprises as ancestors names are spelled differently than expected. I thought in l880 spelling was a science, NOT SO. so birth date and place becomes VERY IMPORTANT. it searches by age + - 5 years so birth date + - 5 years is a great help. Location and birth date are also very helpful. It will copy the family constellation of any person found I will be out of town for 8 days starting Thursday so, if you need a search hold it or do it now. If you have a genealogy library that you would like to give a nice gift this is a bargain if they already have computer resources. Best Charles Severs

    3. I recieved this information after sending that Virus warning email out to all of you. I would have sent it on before now but, I have not been able to get online. I shut my computer down after sending it on and couldn't get it back on. My computer was having some massive problems and we just got it up and running again late last night. Before sending on these Virus warning's I will check them out. I am sorry for sending it on to everyone. Lisa A new virus hoax is spreading across the Internet. It attempts to persuade you to delete a valid Windows file jdbgmgr.exe, which is the Java Debugger Manager. Do not delete this file or forward the message to all your contacts as this hoax asks. If you receive this hoax, delete the message and empty the trash folder. Hoaxes are easy to detect. The common thread is their insistence that you forward the message to as many people as possible. 1. SEVERS Lookups
    2. I have a lot of Severs material on computer and many sources and am always glad to assist with any connections or problems with Severs related genealogy. Just give an outline of what you have in terms of dates, names, and locations and family stories and I will respond. sometimes it will be SLOW but it will come. I would suggest that this be done about twice a year and data added as you acquire it to keep us all informed. It has always been my thought that most of the Severs and similar spellings could be traced to a dozen early emigrants with similar last name spellings and the spelling changed in random fashion. There was a tendency for all spellings to be changed to Seaver(s) in documents as that was the English spelling. Many were not literate and the spelling tended to change from time to time. The most change I have seen was the family of Frederick Severs of Muhlenberg Co who died in l802 and was a Rev War soldier. His family was able to trace him and find his name was something like Schaffer. Not sure how they were able to trace it, but LUCK had to be a part of it. Incidentally, a son or grandson of his was named Michael Severs and he was a HERO of the war of l812 and was credited with killing the British General at the Battle of New Orleans . This was the turning point of the war and the war was ended. After that he was told by most of the wealthy farmers in the area to take anything from their farm that he needed, food for his horse, Ham from their smokehouse, sit at their table ANYTIME. A privilege he seemed to take liberally, I understand. One of his relatives was the husband of Cynthia Barnett of Frankfort Ky who found herself "with child" before the marriage. The childs name was William Porter Severs and is subject of a book "The Severs Clan" by Whittlesby. I believe a copy of this book is available as a reprint for anyone of that family who later lived in Apanoose Co IA. Charles Severs

    2. I had an enquiry recently about this lady who was born in TN about l800-l802 and married a Foster and lived in Nodaway Co MO. If anyone knows anything about her we would appreciate a reply to the list. The only Severs in the area were John Severs from TN and moved to Nodaway Co in l849 and his large family there, which I have fairly well recorded. There was also an Elizabeth Seaver who married James Lamar in Botetout Co VA 1796 and moved to TN after marriage. They appear to have gone to Anderson Co and later lived in Jefferson County TN.. Charles Severs I am accumulating a huge amount of information on Frederick B Severs born l835 and was very prominent in Muskogee and Okmulge Oklahoma (then Indian Territory) if anyone is interested I can help. If you have ANY information I would appreciate being able to purchase a copy of it. Especially--His large horse ranch--reportedly 800 acres----was often visited by John Wesley Hardin the famous gunfighter---any info on that connection a priority..A picture of this man in full Confederate officers uniform is available. He is the builder of the 12 story SEVERS Hotel in Okmulge which was the finest in the West in l912 when completed.

    3. Charles, I would think it more likely that these are descendants of William & Catherine (Peck) Seaver, who moved to Knox/Anderson Co, TN about 1800. Jacob Seaver owned land in Washington/Scott, VA and Hawkins & Sullivan, TN. Hawkins & Sullivan, TN border on Washington & Scott, VA in Northeast TN. I have heard rumors about Polly Thompson, but I have never made the connection. have you? I have several lines I am stumped on but this one intrigues me. I was trying to get in the DAR on this line, but have found links on two other lines in the meantime. Perkins and Williamson. I have had a traumatic turn of events in my life. I am awaiting trial on charges of trying to have on of my daughters killed. My ex-son in law by another daughter asked to borrow money from me and he told a friend that he owed money to that he was going to make a lot more by getting rid of my daughter for me (she has a lot of mental problems and has put me through hell the past two years) This friend of his had a son in jail on meth charges, so he went to the police and told them that if they would let his son go, he would tell them about the alleged murder for hire scheme..... and so here I am, going through hell....I was in ja! il 80 some days before I could get bail so my business went down the drain, and I am more or less retired. Can get on social security in August, if I'm not in prison. Will keep you posted. How are you doing on the Mccullough line? Love, Reba

    1. Charles Jackson Severs of Washington Co AR born TN born Nov l8ll
    2. I have attributed this person to William Severs born l798 Anderson Co TN (Knox Co at that time) but a closer look at the other children seems to make it likely that he is a son of William Severs l752 and Catherine Peck l770. While the younger William is a possibility it seems unlikely that the other children would be born l0 years later or longer and this single one was born VERY early. (Accidents do happen but this appears very unlikely) Charles Severs any thoughts on this subject, anyone.?? He was father of Frederick Ballard Severs, Captain in CSA, Indian agent, married Annie Anderson who was a Creek Indian Chief's daughter (from North Georgia). FBS was also author of the extensive F B Severs Collection of documents from Muskogee OK (Indian Territory then). A picture exists of Annie Anderson and I would pay dearly for a copy of it.
