Thank you Patricia! These SEVER sound very interesting to me. If one could only link them to my William SEAVERS b. 1794 - 1797, TN? In Newton County, MO by 1840 [ federal census]. WFT 14 of Family tree maker has a good report of the family of the above Severs. He was an early emigrant but not real early. He seemed to appear in the early l800 in NC SC. If anyone has ancestry from that area I can search names for you and copy an outline. The entire thing cannot be copied but an outline is o.k. There are several groups of Severs and a regional look at the location of your earliest ancestors can tell a lot. The groups I have identified are William Severs born 1752 (where??) married in l793 in Montgomery Co VA and lived in Anderson Co TN and family branched to AR AL KY and MO and OK. This is my family group Frederick Severs died in l802 and was a rev war soldier and is one of only two Severs groups in Kentucky A possible Sub group of the above is the family of WIlliam Porter Severs born Ky in early l800 (maybe 1820) a son of Cynthia Barnett and Dr. George Kincaid. Cynthia was unmarried. She later married a Severs of the family of Frederick (Probably a William Severs) . He fathered a couple of children and disappeared. The family lived in Apanoose Co IA and is subject of a book titled "The Severs Clan" which has been reprinted and is currently available. Jacob Peck Severs born l809 is a subgroup of WIlliam l752 Daniel Severs found in the AL census of l850 and died in Phillips Co AR is also a subgroup of WIlliam l752 Charles J Severs born l8ll is probably a subgroup. and lived in Washington Co AR. His son Frederick B Severs born l835 lived in Indian Territory and in Muskogee OK and had three families William Severs l797 (Newton Co MO) and John Severs l798 Nodaway Co MO seemed to be subgroups of William l752 There is a Severs family in Florida gooing back to Virginia ( William Severs l788). that has been researched by someone on the list who is active in researching and is glad to share. Currently living in Knoxville TN There is a Sever/ Severs family of Indiana subject of a book by William D Sever of Waldron IN There is a Seaver family that goes back to Robert Seaver of Roxbury MA that is will worked out and is subject of a book that has been recently been reprinted by someone on the list and is probably still available. I believe it is on a book top publishing system There is a Seaver family of Virginia of Henry Seaver born mid 1700s lived in Botetourt Co VA and a son Jacob Seaver lived in Scott Co VA and in Switzerland Co IN. There is a Seaver (Nicholas) of West Virginia who seems to be related to an Armaugh Co Ireland family of Seaver. Of course, branches of all these Severs have migrated everywhere and occasional sightings are found in varied places. There was a Hugh Severs/Seaver who was "transported " from London England in 1638 to a Virginia COunty. This usually ment he was a criminal or debtor . I am especially interested in him as Hugh is a name used in my family frequently. If anyone knows anything.. There are researchers for each group of Severs probably. I have a list of some of them and am glad to help if you have questions. I have many of the Family Tree Maker CD's (Maybe 500 of them) and am glad to help with lookups. If anyone has identified other groups of Severs lets post them. I suspect the above would account for over half of the persons (about 750 of them) named Severs listed in the USA phone directories. I have an extra copy of recent FTM Software if anyone is interested in using it. It is for donation. Best for 2005 Charles Severs list mom

There was a mysterious George Severs in a court record in Breckinridge Co Ky (Close to Posey County across the river ) about l849. I always thought he was related to my Jacob Peck Severs but never found any other hint of connection. Jacob Peck Severs was born in l809 in Anderson Co TN. Any connections to Anderson or Knox Co TN for any of the family of your George Severs?? Charles Severs
I have been wondering about this George Severs also. He is in the 1860 Union County, IL census and has a son by the name of Lorenzo D. Severs. My George Severs born circa 1760 named one of his sons Lorenzo Dow Severs. Just in case no one knows about this, Lorenzo Dow was one of 4 preachers to start a certain religion (and I'm sorry, but I can't remember what religion) in this country about late 1700's. If you do a google search for Lorenzo Dow you should be able to find more about him. My James Severs' probable father was George Severs born circa 1760. In 1820 this family was in Posey Co., IN. I believe there was a possible brother to this George by the name of Jacob. Jacob had children, but I don't know any of their names. I may have possible names to two of his daughters. Both of these men were in Black Twp, Posey Co.,IN. My James Severs was in Washington Co., IL by 1824. James' son, Abram, married in Johnson Co., IL 1843. Johnson Co in next to Union Co. I don't know if this means anything, but I have always wondered why Abram married in Johnson Co. when his father and his wifes parents were in Washington Co., IL, unless there were other family members there. Any time I hear of a Severs fron NC or SC I think of a family who emigrated about 1825 to one of those states. His name was Heinrick Harn Severs with wife Mettie Bruins. Do any of those names show up in middle names in the family of George and Jane?? I have a book on them somewhere. Please include the names of the family that you have records on and I will see if I recognize any of the names or can find them in thaat book. Charles Severs Louisville, Ky Charles Severs

Hello Severs , my name is Alice A Bowlin,Carnes, i get the Severs e-mail letter, but haven't written until now, not that good at the computer.hope under stand.how do I fit into the Severs ? you ask. Well let me tell you but then you'll understand my problem.am i or am i not a Severs, seems apropreate with your letter below in the DNA subject. My Mother was Lucille Leta Severs,md.Frank E. Bowlin, she was the dau.of Perely Clarence Severs, and Huldah Anne Baldock. he was the son of John Franklin Severs and Ida Gale. he was the son of William Porter Severs, and Elizabeth McPherson...now if you know your Severs and I don't just that they were the best fun lovelly side of our family.now that i am an adult i find out that I am not a real Severs after all.seems Wm.P.Severs,was an illeg.child of Geo.Kincade. or so its said. you hear many different stories about it but which is correct. my cousin that lived in Eng.had a Bed and Breakfast now gone so not much luck left in finding out the! truth no matter how it hurts, don't know what the dna test would cost.we are on retirement pay.so its a fixed living. please write and let me know if you could help and would like to find out if I am family or not. I just got back from a trip to Jefferson and Washington Counties, IL to research my Severs. I can now prove that James M. Severs had a son James. James M.'s son, James' mother is Barbra Sanders. I got this proof from the Family history Center film of marriages in Jefferson Co., IL for James Severs marriage to Sirena Smith 1891. It names James' parents as James M. Severs and Barbra Sanders. This record is missing from the Jefferson Co., IL courthouse. I looked two boxes before and after the proper box and the tenth box before and after. I had found reference to this marriage in one index at the library in Jefferson Co. but not in two others. It really does pay to look at many different kinds of resources. I had heard that James M. had two wives. The first wife died before they came to Washington Co., IL. The second wife was supposed to have married after arriving to IL. The person that told me this couldn't tell me her documentation for this info or how she knows this. But I do know that James was born in IL 1827. There is a grave for Barbary Severs born and died 1854. She is next to James M. Severs. Is she the child of Abram (born 1820 IN) whose grave is close by or the daughter of the Younger James? Is she named after Abram's mother or Stepmother? These are just questions to think about. At least, we now have one wife for James M. Severs. More to explore, I know there are Sanders in Washington &/or Jefferson Co., IL. Are there any in Posey Co., IN? If there are, then James M. could have married Barbra in IN or IL. James M. was in Washington Co., IL by 1824. I also have further evidence that Elam and Nancy Milam may be the parents of Rebecca Dubois Severs. I found the probate record of Elam and Abram and Rebecca aren't heirs because Nancy is still alive but, their names are in the record. I wonder why I can't find Nancy's probate record? The Sever's and Milam's are in Washington Co., IL then they both go to Jefferson Co. together. They go to the sames church and are buried together in the same area and now all these same names are in the probate of Elam. Could all of this be coincidence?

I would like to find a direct male descendant from any of the Severs branches headed by Daniel Severs born l800-l802 TN and found in the madison CoAL census of l850 and died in Phillips Co AR, presumably living with his daughter. Charles J Severs born 1811 lived in Washington CO AR and father of Frederick Ballard Severs born 1835 and Samuel B Severs son of Frederick B Severs. Any other Severs born in TN between 1794 and 1849, particularly in the area of Anderson Co TN. All that I am aware of are spelled Severs but the spelling before l850 could vary a lot, especially in public records where the entry was made by others. Many in this group were spelled Seevers, Seaver, and Seavers as late as the l850 Census. A JOhn Severs reported to me that he had a lead on the John Severs of Nodaway CO MO born in TN l798 FAMILY BIBLE. I would greatly like to find any CLUE as to the Date of Birth of William Severs l752 who died in l852 in Nodaway CO MO to compare with a known date of an emigrant who emigrated in July of l782 to Savanna GA and , later , may have married in Montgomery Co VA in l793 or been an entirely different person. As a Rootsweb list admin for numerous lists, your request is somewhat against the AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) for Rootsweb. Even though the two companies are one in the same the specific legalities about posting copyrighted material are clearly stated in the AUP. This would be a violation of that and the list could be terminated. Both Rootsweb and Ancestry.com are very strange about their relationship and about how data "WE" post to their servers is manipulated. I can post a message and then extract it form the Archives and the AUP states I can not repost my message anywhere else, burn cd's, sell access to it etc.... Even though I posted it. I can post it directly to other places and sell it if I want to, but that has to be a separate transaction and not involving the Rootsweb archives. Even then its a grey area.... Not that I support this type of AUP since most people know I support "Free Genealogy" and that I am the first to photocopy whole books, repost email sent to me on my website and anything that "I" deem needed in the research that I have going is fair game when it relates to my family. Feel free to post anything that you can put on here that can not be proven was "Cut and pasted" verbatim, and any Digital images of Deeds, Books, certificates, licenses, military papers, DAR papers etc I will gladly post on my Shivers Family Legends website since it is pertaining to researching the variations of the Shivers family history.
