Barry, I was having some problems earlier and my ISP installed this "AdAware" for me... He did tell me to run it once in a while, but until you mentioned it, I forgot about it... I was running Norton's scan, but had to Pause it, as I had to leave the house...(I haven't gotten back to it, to see if it would go right on from where it left off...) But, after scanning some 180,000+ files, it hadn't found anything amiss...But it about took FOREVER!! and, as I said, I had to leave... I also tried this "defrag"... it said something about that it couldn't really do a "good" job, because it needed "15%" of "something"... and I only had "14%" of that "something"...... SPACE??? I don't exactly remember what it was, that I was "missing".... it also said I had to delete some files to get the needed "something"... but I would have NO IDEA of what to delete! I did check out my un-used space on my computer....Computer has a 144GB capacity, I'm using 9.69GB, and the Un-used is 134GB.... I guess I would have thought I was using more than that, I have a bunch of clip-art installed.... Sorry.... but I am not really good at this part of computing.... (I'm not very mechanically minded, either!..LOL) What I'm trying to find out is if your whole system is lethargic, not just the internet side of things. From your other posts in this thread I'd say your likely problem is either virus based or perhaps a massive infection of Spyware. Run your virus scan and see what turns up, but also try downloading AdAwareSE from www.lavasoft.de and after updating it, do a full scan of your system. You may be amazed at the number of Spyware items it'll find !! Just having a few of these things will not make any difference to your PC but when you get hundreds of them ( or thousands ) then they really do cause a performance hit. -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Xandros 2.0 Deluxe ==== SENIOR-NEWBIE Mailing List ==== Keep informed of the latest news and new databases, webpages and mailing lists at RootsWeb.
