G'Day all. does anyone know if there is any software that will check what has been downloaded onto one's Pc. I had a download yesterday of 3.5 meg coming in & I haven't a clue who it was from (Still don't) luckily I checked as the Pc was very slow & terminated it. but how many have got though is another thing I run XP's firewall but not to sure about that now. Regards Arthur
Arthur, you would probably be more secure if you shut off the Windows Firewall and ran Zone Alarm. If you didn't initiate the download, could it have been an automatic download of Windows updates? Do you have that option turned on? The other important point with downloads - any download other than Windows updates - is to have a designated folder into which they go. If you have a separate hard drive that is a good spot to create it. If not, have it on separate partition at least. Firefox will allow you to nominate your downloads folder, so that every download goes there. Then when you have it downloaded, you can run your AV program over it to ensure it is safe before doing anything else with it.
