As for Check Disc - this has always been included with Windows but previously it wasn't much to write home about and it would always suggest you ran Scan Disc instead. With WinXP they decided to beef up Check Disc so that Scan Disc wasn't needed any more .... don't try to understand the logic behind this, there isn't any - it's just MicroSoft <lol> NT> As to the "Pie".... the blue has 9.77GB out of a total of 144GB... This shows you have oodles of free space there, so if Defrag isn't showing a similar amount of white space then something is amiss. Most of this space saving is from Compressing Old Files - and apart from taking an age to apply you aren't going to see any sort of improvement. WinXP applies this by default to any file that hasn't been accessed for 50 days - the downside being if you then decide to start using those files it's slower to access them as they have to be un-compressed first. You can set this time limit up to 499 days. HTH -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Xandros 2.0 Deluxe
