    3. Boy did you ever give me a bucketful of information concerning my defunct printer and I thank you very much for it. I did take it to a repair man who fiddled with it a bit and announced that he didn't think "owed me anything" and that rather than try to repair it since it was well past retirement age, I probably would be better off to purchase a new printer. I think I have to agree with him as I have been having quite a bit of trouble with it lately. It is now my decision as to which printer to pick as a replacement (but not until I have attempted to try to fix it myself with your suggestions). I have heard pros and cons from so many makes and models that I am almost down to drawing a name out of a hat. If you have information about a one that you feel is worth the money, I surely would appreciate a "run down" - Thanks again. - Grandma Fern

There's been many a good printer with many years of useful life left in them that have been dumped because of this little problem, and for the sake of a small download ( if you know where to get it ! ) they could have been saved. Of course it's only worth while doing this if the printer continues to give good service - when they get too worn out to be reliable then it really is time to let go of them :-) GF> It is now my decision as to which printer to pick as a replacement GF> (but not until I have attempted to try to fix it myself with your GF> suggestions). If GF> you have information about a one that you feel is worth the GF> money, I surely would appreciate a "run down" When you do get to replacing this venerable printer then its long years of service has to say something for Epson - and we to have used Epson printers without any problems, current model being the R200 which prints direct onto CD's as well as producing great photo's. The good thing about Epson's is there's a good market in 3rd party inks at much lower cost, and despite the warnings from Epson we've had good results from these. What I would advise though is to find a brand you like and stick to it - it's when you start mixing different inks that you get the problems with clogged nozzles etc. Not all inks are made the same and some don't mix well !! In Epson's favour, I think if you are planning on your prints to be around for the next 100 years then using Epson inks and paper may have the edge - then again, how much of what we print is expected to last that long ?? -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Xandros 2.0 Deluxe
