It could be that the voice recorder is using a compression level that the DVD player can't handle. Whereas a PC can be updated easily it's not as easy to update stand-alone players, they aren't made to be updated. You may be able to adjust the voice recorder to a lower level of compression, but that would mean you'd have less recording time on it - even then the stand-alone player might not cope and the only way to find out is to try it.
