When the counter reaches a certain value the printer will cease to function - you are supposed to have the waste ink sponge replaced though it may well be long away from needing it. Some folks take the sponge out and wash it apparently, but that does mean taking the printer apart somewhat !! BTW - Canon printers use a sequence of button presses to do the same job but it varies according to the printer, with some having little or no indication you've pressed the buttons in the right order <lol> NT> 2---I have a Canon i550 Inkjet.... 4 tanks...What exactly do you NT> mean by "3rd party inks"? Inks not made or endorsed by Canon. These tend to be quite a lot cheaper than the 'branded' ones and although the printer makers will tell you that anything else will cause your printer to malfunction, in practice this doesn't happen and these lower cost inks work just as well as the originals. Whether or not you go for these is a matter of personal choice but we've used these low cost ones on our Epson's for years without any ill effects. Using better quality paper does make a big difference to the print, even if not printing photo's <lol> The R200 has performed great since we got it - even printing some old postcards we scanned better than the original ! CD printing was a bit hit-and-miss until we realised that the tray needed to be pulled through quite a long way and stuck out at the back ... it was being stopped by hitting the PC sat behind and the print job cancelled with an error. Once that was clear it did a grand job of printing direct to the CD top ( using a special type of CD of course, by they aren't much dearer than normal ones ). No good for doing many CD's - each one takes a while to do - but the end results are worth the wait.
