    3. Jenny, it could be that your firewall is blocking the update. If you download this "PDF" file it has the settings AVG requires for the three of the most popular firewalls - Windows XP; Kerio and Zone Alarm: http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/70free/doc/avg_free_firewall_install_en_70_4.pd f You may find a solution to your problem by using the recommended settings. Hi all, I'm asking for help again please if anyone can do so. The AVG Anti-Virus Icon in my task bar has greyed out and I get a message telling me that the Internal Virus Database is out of date but when I try to update, a message appears each time telling me the update was unsuccessful. I also get a message asking me to restart the computer which I've tried numerous times, but the icon stays grayed out. Uninstalling then reinstalling AVG doesn't change these things. Can anyone help please? Regards, Jenny.

    3. Dear all, Yesterday I repeatedly uninstalled and re-installed free AVG Anti-Virus without success, icon stayed grey and my computer wouldn't update. This morning I went through the process again, doing nothing different, and was successful first time. I don't know why it worked this time but perseverance paid off. Thank you very much to you kind people for your most welcome help. Best wishes, Jenny.
