Jenny, it could be that your firewall is blocking the update. Dear all, Yesterday I repeatedly uninstalled and re-installed free AVG Anti-Virus without success, icon stayed grey and my computer wouldn't update. This morning I went through the process again, doing nothing different, and was successful first time. I don't know why it worked this time but perseverance paid off.
