Re our discussion of XP and the registry key, this has bearing on the use of HP computers sold without backup CDs. Someone shared this information with me. I did request and did receive the set of restore CDs, at no cost, back in 2003 shortly after making the computer purchase, but it appears that others may not have been so lucky, and that some never tried. Relief, via the CDs or download, has now been made available. Check the website to see if your HP qualifies for the class action suit. I actually received two notices from the HP Settlement Administrator by postal mail last week. "I wonder if you know about the class action suit that was filed against HP about this very situation. If you're interested in pursuing it, here's a link that should work: http://www.computersettlement.com. Or call 1-866-778-1148." Elaine
Hi Elaine. If I had read this msg before replying to the first one, I'd have known how you handled it. That's fine ... I can call the 800 number to find out if I'm included in the settlement, but I think I just HAVE to be, considering what I've gone through with this thing. Anyway, thanks for being there ...
