(where on earth did they come up with a name like "Longhorn"?.....sounds like some Texas Steer!) <Rest snipped> Thanks, NancyT

Quite a lot different in many ways though from screen shots I've seen and reviews of beta versions it'll look pretty much the same as WinXP. What it does do though is integrate the internet even more closely with the operating system - now whether or not that's a good thing or not is debatable. Personally, and given MicroSoft's track record on the security side of things, I think it has the makings of a very bad disaster movie !! There would be no need for anyone to change their WinXP, in the same way there are plenty of folks still using other versions of Windows. What it will affect is anyone buying a new PC after Longhorn is out, as it will then be the default OS and you'll be stuck with it unless you erase the whole lot and put your WinXP on - thus voiding any sort of warranty you may have. NT> (where on earth did they come up with a name like NT> "Longhorn"?.....sounds like some Texas Steer!) No doubt there'll be lots of puns built on the name if it does turn out to be a bad OS <lol> MicroSoft have always chosen weird names for the 'work in progress' developments and I guess this one is going to make it through to the final version. -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Xandros 2.0 Deluxe
Barry, Thank, and you are right... it does sound like one, silly dumb name....(sometimes you do wonder where the powers-that-be at MicroSoft, and other big companies, too, left their brains!!!) Based one what you say.... guess I'll keep XPHome and not upgrade.... do you know when is the "newest steer on the block" scheduled to come out? still shaking my head in dis-belief.... Supposedly second quarter 2006 - but don't hold me to that, this one has seen more revision to the launch date than anyone can remember ! It's not even right to call it a 'Steer' any more as it's had some vital bits snipped off because MicroSoft couldn't get them to work right <lol> -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Xandros 2.0 Deluxe
