    1. Adding Web Addresses to IE

    3. Hello, I lost all my addresses in IE and am adding them back one at a time. The addresses have .url on the end of each one. I renamed all of them getting rid of the .url and then I could not open the website. Before I lost the addresses, they did not have .url on the end. I have always edited the address to shorten it. Is there a way to not show the .url? -- Best Wishes, Lloyd mailto:llhite31@juno.com

    3. Lloyd, Don't know the answer to your question.... but why go to the trouble of "getting rid of the .url" on the end of each one"?.....it's just 4 little spaces???? 3. It would be necessary NOT to have ".url" at the end of each web address, Nancy, because it is not part of the real address. As I explained to Lloyd in my other posting, ".url" is applied when you create a shortcut to a web address on your Desktop. If Lloyd leaves them in an actual address as in say www.google.com.url it will produce an "Address Not Found" message. On the other hand, if the shortcut is clicked upon, the correct site will open, because the Properties of the Shortcut contain the real address, in this example www.google.com. Unlike the post office, URL's have to be dead accurate to arrive at the correct destination. There is no "human" intervention to redirect incorrectly addressed messages as the post office often does :-). Lance P. S. Check out Legacy Family Tree today! 3. What you are most likely adding, Lloyd are shortcuts to the websites. A website address does not have ".url" as an extension (uniform resource locator). However, if you drag a website address on to your Desktop it creates a shortcut to that website and it will show as "<name of site>.url". Have you looked for your Favorites folder in C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Favorites? As you have Firefox installed also, you have the option of exporting your Bookmarks from Firefox to IE. On installation Firefox would have read your Favorites list and added them to Bookmarks. So all your Favorites, at that time, should be available from Firefox now. As well as exporting your Favorites/Bookmarks to a HTML file for future safe keeping, you could use Powermarks to manage, save and backup your Favorites/Bookmarks: http://www.kaylon.com/power.html Lance P.
