    3. Many computers sold in the US are sold without backup CDs. The windows operating system and pre-installed applications furnished by the OEM are on a separate partition on the hard drive and the programming is accessed there using hot keys in the event of problems. I had no CDs when I bought and unpacked my computer system two and a half years ago. That was the beginning of the trend. I called HP and they did send me the set of reformat/reinstallation disks, I imagine they still do, whether now free or for a fee I don't know. There is no separate Windows CD. I am using an OEM version of XP-Home and it is part of the overall application recovery system. I am sure it is done under agreement with Microsoft. Elaine I care not what others think of what I do, but I care very much about what I think of what I do. 3. The other day I received a message with a 800 number to call to receive the disks that are being offered as a settlement results in a lawsuit. Does anyone have that number? Thanks Marilyn
