An interesting question, Nancy - What is a log file? Well, they are just text files. A log file is a file that keeps a running list of errors, notices, updates, and other system or network issues. It contains a date and time they occurred, and any other important information about the events in the log file. Each log file format is different from vendor to vendor. Log files can indicate the general health of a system or network. They can indicate any illegal or legal activity on a system or network if you have one. If you have a web site, a log file can be generated showing activity on your site. Log files can quickly accumulate data if left unchecked for the system and network. Many AV programs, firewall, backup programs generate log files of their activities. So, unless you need to keep "tabs" on that type of activity, they can be deleted without any detrimental effect, just like cookies or temp files. Lance P. S. Check out Legacy Family Tree today!
