Dear Lists members. I am still experiencing difficulties viewing the Canadian census images, in that within a couple of moments I get a "Microsoft Error Report" as follows: Appname: iexplore AppVer 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: mrsidi.ocx I am given an option of sending an error report which I have done several times. It then shuts down my connection to the census pages. Tried searching at different times of the day or night does not help. I thought overload of the server might be involved. Clearing my cache does not help either. I have uninstalled and re-installed Mr.Sid version 3.4.5 several times. On Lizardtech download page it states O/S requirements to be Win 2000/XP or NT 4.0. Can that be the problem? My computer is an HP pavilion 6635 and the O/S is Win 98SE with the latest updates. A couple of years ago I was always able to view images from the 1901 census but I believe Mr.Sid was an earlier version that I lost when I had to re-format my hard drive. Surely my faithful old computer is still capable of me pursuing my genealogy interests. Any ideas or suggestions from anyone will be greatly appreciated. Dave in Montreal
Mr. SID should run on Windows 98. Do you have Active X allowed ? You could try using the Enhanced image viewer instead of Mr. Sid. It downloads the images pretty fast, and you can save them as regular jpg if you use this viewer. http://content.ancestry.com/Browse/install_x.aspx Courtney ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Delucas" <delucas2@sympatico.ca> > Dear Lists members. > > I am still experiencing difficulties viewing the Canadian census images, > in that within a couple of moments I get a "Microsoft Error Report" as > follows: > > Appname: iexplore AppVer 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: mrsidi.ocx > > I am given an option of sending an error report which I have done several > times. Earlier versions of Mr Sid ran on WIN98. The originator of the questionb stated that the OS requirements were for WIN2K, XP or NT4. Since he doesn't have either of them, the program won't run CORRECTLY. It may run for a while then dump, which is exactly what is happening. Solution? Get an earlier version or upgrade the OS. Wayne, You summed up my problem to the tee. Now in your last couple of lines, "earlier version of view or up date the OS" well I had previously looked at the Lizardtech home page to see if there was an earlier version, none. But a google search for "mrsid earlier version" got me to a download for Geo Express Viewer, did that, and low and behold, I have been perusing census pages for the last hour. Am keeping my fingers crossed but I think its a go. And my thanks go to you for the suggestion of an earlier version. Very much appreciated. And my thanks to everyone else that offered assistance. Am a happy fella climbing the family tree.
