I hope I've sent this to the right list ... I'm still learning my way around here. I have XP and I'm using LDS's PAF genealogy software. I often do their "backup" available from their File menu. I also do a weekly backup on a CD-RW. Each time, of course, this overwrites what was previously on the CD. My problem arises from the many PAF files that are created. It appears that very often when I do a backup on a CD-RW, another file is created. I have them ending in .pal, .paf, and .zip. Whenever I do the PAF backup, it automatically shows that each of these files has been updated, too. When I click on Jones-Smith genealogy.paf (a fictitious name in the same format as my own genealogy file name), the file opens, but the title shown at the top of the screen is 1\Owner\MYDOCUMENT~1\SMITH~1.PAF. Sometimes this is a read-write file, and sometimes it is a read only file. This is driving me crazy. Today I opened a file, spent 45 minutes typing additional info, only to look down and see that "Save" was grayed out. I spent another 15 minutes copying it down in my rusty shorthand, then looked for another of the 7 PAF files that would let me save it, and re-typed it to that file. Is this all standard for PAF?
