You can go into Safe Mode by clicking on F8 when you turn on your computer. Safe mode keeps all that stuff from running in the background while you're doing maintenance. Run Clean Sweep/Disk Cleanup, Scan Disk and then Defrag. When Defrag is done turn off the computer and turn it back on.
