I have given my old computer with XP to my sister and wonder if I could clean the hard drive of all my programmes without having to remove them all individually. I also have the XP installation disc and was wondering whether if I put that in and run it, it might do the job for me. She is not computer literate and has decided she might go on-line if the computer was more up-to-date - ie without all my programmes etc. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Bette (UK)

If you run the WinXP installation it will be able to wipe the HD clean of your programs / data but unless this is a manufacturer's recovery CD you'll then have to download / install all the hardware drivers for the PC. Depending on how many programs you need to remove it might be as easy to spend a few minutes in Add/Remove Programs than do a full restore back to factory conditions, especially if you then have to go looking for those hardware drivers ! -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.04 'Jaunty'
