Maryellen, I've used The Master Genealogist since...well... forever it seems. The number of people it can handle is, for all practical purposes, unlimited. The limit is the size of your hard drive and it is said that it can handle 1 billion people. It is perhaps the most customizable genealogy program on the market. They provide excellent customer service and have a very active users Forum. I've had no real problems with it You owe it to yourself to try it out.
