    1. Re: [SR-NEWBIE] Computer on and running but Monitor screen blank
    2. Thanks Barry and Woody for your help. I am not using a laptop. Hibernate is not enabled but I have changed some of the other settings under Power Options and if that doesn't do the trick I will change the screen saver. Now if I could just figure out how to stop McShield.exe from running for 20 minutes each time I turn on the computer I would be a happy camper! Vonda In a message dated 10/2/2009 8:27:20 P.M. I have to unplug the laptop from power, remove the battery, reconnect all, and reboot. For some reason, my laptop will not let me change the power options to "do not hibernate". Other laptops have a hibernation recovery program, and will allow a change to "do not hibernate". For your laptop, if you want to avoid it going into hibernation, Go into Control Panel > Power Options Reset it so it does not go into hibernate. You may also have a screen saver that's faulty so try changing to a different one to check that. ********* Visit the threaded archives of this list: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/SENIOR-NEWBIE ********* ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SENIOR-NEWBIE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

There should be a setting in McAfee that tells it to scan on boot up and that can be turned off. Also check the settings for the regular scanning and if you want to do this manually then also turn that off or set to a less intrusive schedule like once a week. One thing that slows down virus scanning is not having enough RAM in the system so if you are running with 512Mb or less then consider an upgrade to 1Gb or more. Amazing what a difference it can make and it's the most cost-effective update you can do to a PC :-) -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.04 'Jaunty'
