    1. [SR-NEWBIE] Trojan woes and the Happy Ending
    2. Nancy & Ted
    3. Maybe we learned something during our recent trojan problems. Our computer is miraculously fixed!! We had been nervous about some of the fixes that were suggested (and the McAfee guy told us it could only be fixed by a pro, too deeply embedded or something). One of two things apparently happened: 1. A patch or update appeared from McAfee , one of those that made you reboot -- and right after the last virus scans and this update, voila! So if you have a big-time problem and can wait it out for a couple of weeks, you might save a wad of money. Maybe McAfee figured it out and fixed it. 2. A friend-of-a-friend who wrote a book on viruses suggests running your virus scans several times back to back, as he said that sometimes there were enough that the program had to move on and not deal with it the first time around (that's my understanding of what he said, at least). He said you would be amazed at what gets picked up the next time around. We had 4 trojans, 3 quarantined and fixed 1, although they all reappeared with every rebooting. It always showed these 4 and dealt with them the same way (i.e., they didn't disappear one by one with additional scans), so we feel that the update probably fixed the computer for us. Thanks for all of your advice, we have saved it for future reference, but I think that next time we might try the "wait and see" method we stumbled upon first, if we can stand the inconvenience. And maybe checking with McAfee provokes them to find it, if enough people are logging in about it?? Maybe they just find them anyway with their magical powers, I don't know. Nancy
