We, our two sons and one daughter have yahoo accounts. Yesterday, we received something called a Yahoo Alert that stated (paraphrased) within two weeks we had to provide updated information or else our account would be permanently closed. I write for advice 1. because I find no way to contact Yahoo customer service and 2. no other family member has received such an item. Can you tell me if this is some time of scam? How might we determine whether this is valid? I have had this yahoo account for more years than I can remember, and have never before seen such. Any help/guidance appreciated. Rick Powell
You're right, it's a scam. Ignore and delete And keep up the good work - always be suspicious of any email that doesn't seem quite right. Hello RickandRana, Thursday, July 2, 2009, 3:10:16 AM, you wrote: R> Yesterday, we received something called a Yahoo Alert that stated R> (paraphrased) within two weeks we had to provide updated R> information or else our account would be permanently closed. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then the chances are it's a duck .... i.e. a scam to get you to give away personal details. No reputable company will contact you to verify account information like that, and certainly the bit about 'account will be permanently closed' is again a tactic by spammers to frighten users into falling for the trick. Advice: Send messages like this to the trash bin where they belong :-) -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.04 'Jaunty'
