Barbra, I tried the "List Alphabetizer" free program, and it's not what you want. It requires the list be populated line by line, and lists cannot be input into the program, meaning you'd have to start from scratch with the lists, and there would be no columns for name, birth, death, etc. It's no good for sorting cemetery web pages, as the pages would require columns as well as rows. I tried copying and pasting cemetery lists from web pages into Excel, and the cells were scrambled after import. I don't know what the web pages look like that you're working with. You may be able to import them into a Word or Open Office table and retain formatting, and then sort on the desired column. In any case, your lists on cemetery pages should be created and maintained on a Word or Open Office table, or Excel or Access table, and you can immediately sort them after entry of new records, and then copy the table over onto your web page for uploading. IF all of the lists are on current web pages or data files, and all tables are uniform in number of columns across a row, you can easily paste them into MS Word as tables. You can easily cause each pasted table to merge into one single table,.and then sort on the desired column. Open Office is free and is as good as MS Office which includes MS Word. That program can be loaded from Tucows http://www.tucows.com/preview/420798 or from CNET http://download.cnet.com/List-Alphabetizer/3000-2056_4-10451219.html To alphabetize lists, I usually do a "select all" in the list, paste it in MS Word, enter a special symbol to show ends of lines, convert the list to a table, and then sort. I paste the sorted list into Notepad to remove the MS Word hidden junk, and then paste the result into a web page. After you do your list sort with the free software, you might paste the result into Notepad to ensure the list is free of hidden junk that might make your web page behave in an unpredictable manner. I have a cemetery survey which was surveyed in sections due to its size. I did not have tombstone pictures at the time of the survey, but now do and I am going out of my mind trying to find the subjects of the pictures. The entries are alphabetized within each section and I would like to merge them all together into one large alphabetized file. Thanks for any suggestions. **************Recession-proof vacation ideas.
