    1. [SR-NEWBIE] Convert audio of dvd to cd possibility
    2. I would like to listen to some lectures I have on dvd to a cd so I can listen to them in my car. Most of the sites I've looked at, including two cows and some others mention burning from dvd to mp3 and other equally bewildering formats. I really don't know how to do that or how that would help me convert to a plain old recordable cd. Is there some freeware or shareware or directions that might help me without totally demoralizing me and leaving me with the feeling of being a total dope. I have windows xp with a cd drive and a dvd drive. Thanks for any information/guidance you can provide. The biggest problem is that a DVD has a different way of encoding audio so what you'll need is a tool to rip the audio from the DVD. There are many such tools around but the biggest pitfall is that there are also plenty of rogue ones that do more than they should, i.e. install spyware or viruses ( especially the free ones ) so you have to be very careful which one you get !! The free program here http://www.dvd-mp3.org/ will do the job but only converts to MP3 - not to worry as the process of creating an audio CD next will take care of that automatically :-) Next you need to create an audio CD and you'll probably have a program on your PC already to do this, but if not then Deep Burner Free is a good one to get http://www.deepburner.com/?r=download You will have to learn how to use the above programs of course but neither are overly complicated. The main thing to remember is to save the extracted audio to a location you can find easily when you come to creating the audio CD. Just a couple more things, expect to make a few mistakes and create some bad CD's at first, it's normal and luckily audio CD's are pretty cheap now. Also don't use re-writable CD's ( CD-RW ) as many audio players won't handle them, use CD-R instead. There are paid programs that can do all this in one step, but they aren't cheap and are also complex to learn. Unless you are going to be doing it a lot then the outlay and learning curve is probably too high - might as well get a portable DVD player and plug it into the car stereo, just don't watch it whilst driving !! -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Xandros 4.0 Home Edition Premium
