I've used Avast for several years and have never had a problem. It just spins along in the tray on the bottom of my monitor. I also have CCleaner which I try to remember to use daily to knock out any temporary files, history and other 'schtuff' that's just taking up space on the pc. To get rid of other AVG files you could maybe do an online search for some tips on that if someone isn't able to help you here. It's not unusual to have files hang around on a drive long after you thought you uninstalled a program. I had that happen with Symantec when I had it a few years ago....annoyed the heck out of me until somebody said, 'go here...look for this...hit delete'.
