I have spywareBot. It detected a trojan virus and said I have to register to remove it. I paid the $29.00 to register and the instructions are to uninstall spywarebot and install Spyware STOP. Am I being duped Thanks Dale
Yes, I think it's a scam, Dale. I would call your bank and tell them you were duped and would like to challenge the charge. I think they will most likely remove it, may in fact give you a new card and number. Try to get whatever Spyware Stop is off of your system. If you have to go into safe mode and remove it from there. I think that is the same one I bought earlier this year and it didn't remove whatever it was it claimed it would. I complained to them and they issued credit. DC> Am I being duped Sorry, but this is all fake alerts to get you to buy a useless bit of software - you can say goodbye to the money :-( I'd recommend you remove Spyware Bot if it will let you and then download the free Malware Bytes ( www.malwarebytes.org ) and do a full scan of your system - remove everything that it finds. If you used a credit card for the purchase it would be prudent to consider it compromised and get it stopped / replaced too !! -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.04 'Jaunty'
