My son gave me Office '07, telling me I would enjoy its wonderful new features. The product is new, in its case. I am running Windows XPpro SP2. During installation, error 1316 appeared. Error 1316: "a network error occurred, C:\\Windows\installer\Data2.msi setup failed". However, when the installation ended, I checked out some of the programs and was able to use Word (well, it functions), open Excel and use a bit of Publisher. I downloaded a powerpoint presentation and that definitely works. The problem: constant and continuing interruptions while attempting to use Word that read something like: Word encountered a problem and has to close; regret the inconvenience, etc. Another message appeared telling how to avoid so many problems by downloading Office updates. On the Microsoft site, I had the Microsoft scan and found about five or six downloads were needed. I began with the first on the list which was SP1, but I don't recall whether that was for just Word or for Office. SP1 would not install. The error message that I deleted, without thinking about it, told some file is not available. The same experience with SP2 and one other recommended download/installation. Question: does the error 1316 of the installation have anything to do with inability to install needed updates? How do I fix whatever is causing the problems? My fixing it will have to be simple, but I sure don't want another expensive trip to the Geek Squad if it can be done fairly easily by me at home. Any and all help/guidance appreicated. Rick Powell
