AOL tends to check for the latest version during an install and override the version that the CD is putting on. In terms of security that's the better option as the latest one has all the fixes plus security updates etc. Vac> It just seems such a clean spread compared to the big AOL with Vac> the ads, etc. Maybe the ads are necessary - I shouldn't complain Vac> for it is *free* and I suppose I just have to get used to it. Yes, that's the price paid for the 'free' service from AOL and it's how they make the money to run it all. The AOL software has all these built-in adverts that cannot be stopped and also there are advert links added to all e-mails sent through them. The only other way to do it is to not install the AOL software at all and just go to the AOL home page in Internet Explorer. This will show a slightly different page though still with adverts of course but you don't get the pop-up ones as AOL connects and you still have e-mail links etc. Note that this only works if you have AOL broadband through a router - if you have a USB dial-up broadband modem then it needs the AOL software to connect ( there is a way around this but it's messy to set up ). -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'
