Hello RickandRana, Sunday, January 24, 2010, 7:11:11 PM, you wrote: R> 1. Where is best place for use of folders in Thunderbird email? R> Within account or in local folders? Depends on whether there's more than one user. The idea of 'Local Folders' is to have a common area which can be shared between all users if they use different login profiles. For a single user there's not a lot of use for the local folders but some use them as a sort of archive store to keep the account Inbox as empty as possible - which all e-mail clients much prefer. Mail for each folder has it's own file that is stored in the profile folder on the hard drive. There are programs that can extract mail from these folders but if you have a copy of the whole profile folder you can install a fresh copy of Thunderbird ( on the same PC or another one ) and copy the contents to transfer the whole thing, e-mail and accounts all in one go. In this respect it's similar to the PST file of Outlook except it's a collection of separate files so damage to one doesn't wreck the whole thing. A damaged PST file can render the whole thing unreadable !! R> 3. What is meaning of local folders? Explained above methinks <lol> BTW - there is a way to remove the local folders if you feel they are just too confusing. One other point when creating new folders to store mail in to keep the Inbox as empty as possible you need to make them in the root of the account not as a sub-folder in Inbox ... i.e. Account ... Inbox ... New Folder Name ... Outbox ... Sent Items NOT Account ... Inbox ...... New Folder Name ... Outbox ... Sent Items The second method does not keep the Inbox empty as the new folder is stored inside it ! -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'

Barry, I am back with two questions: 1. how do I create a new folder in the root of the Thunderbird program? So far, I have tried creating two folders and the message pops up "sub-folder of RANA"; 2. Yes, I would like to remove the Local Folders from our Thunderbird page. I searched again the tutorial and could not find the answer. Please provide instructions? Again, I thank you for your time and help.
