Hi Barry Thank you so much. I took out all the usb plugs and I put an old fashioned mouse and keyboard in with the green and purple plugs I checked the plug leading to the outlet with something else and that is working. But the PC Still doesn't work. I don't know what I am looking for with the magnifying glass but I have a few screw drivers. If you can give me some baby baby steps. I will change the power sauce or the diapers or what ever you tell me to do. Thanks so much Be Well Ema Eac> My pc wont turn on no lights no noise nothing. Does anybody know Eac> what I can check besides the plugs. After trying a known good working power cable ( i.e. the one in the monitor, assuming this powers up OK ) then the chances are it's the power supply inside the box that's gone. These can be replaced so it's not new PC time ... well, not yet anyway <lol> Another thing that can prevent powering up is shorted USB ports so check these carefully with a magnifying glass. Any damage inside is suspect and with care the internal bits can be straightened out to clear the short but the socket will not be usable any more. In the same sort of direction, unplug all USB devices anyway as a fault in one of those can do the same thing. If it is just the power unit then this can be replaced by a local tech pretty reasonably or you could even do the job yourself if you are OK working with screwdrivers and opening up the PC case. Not a problem if you aren't sure about it, just mentioning as on the scale of PC fixing it's about as simple as it gets :-) -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'
Hello Ema, Tuesday, July 20, 2010, 9:55:42 PM, you wrote: Eac> I don't know what I am looking for with the magnifying glass... Basically any damage such as bent connectors or even if the little plastic wafer is broken. Eac> ...but I have a few screw drivers. If you can give me some baby Eac> baby steps. OK, first thing to verify is what make and model number of PC this is to determine if you'll need a special PSU or a generic one. However, once you have the new one then replacing is just a case of unplugging the connectors to the system ( motherboard, HD, CDROM ) and undoing the 4 screws that hold the PSU box in place then taking it out. The new one goes in the space vacated and all the plugs will only to the sockets they should go to so you can't fit the wrong one in or even the wrong way around. It would be worth opening up the case and looking inside anyway to check out what I mean regarding those plugs and the overall layout. Also you can check for dust build up too and if you can take a photo of the insides and send it to me that would be great ( to my e-mail address in the signature line, not to the list ). A picture really is worth a thousand words <lol> No need to reduce it in size too unless it's very large as my mail box can handle large images. -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'
