Just removing a CD using the paper-clip trick shouldn't be a problem, done it myself may times !! So have you tried shutting down the PC totally then starting up again ? Also does the CD drawer come out when you press the button plus what happens if you put a CD in there ?? -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'
Hi Barry and thanks for your response, In shame I must confess that the problem was just 'poor housekeeping' ........ I disconnected the PC from the power and took a side off .......... well!! ....... the compacted dust and filth inside was amazing so I used a brush followed by a car type vacuum cleaner to remove it all. In so doing I must have cleared up the problem as the light started to flicker on the drawer so I inserted a CD and it worked OK. I should have known better as I have cleaned the air filters in my air conditioners at home on a quarterly basis .... dont know why it did'nt occur to me that the PC is not unrelated to this problem.
