Annoying little habit of USB drives but to answer your question, yes you can tell the system to always mount as drive 'G', however if G is the next letter available due to other hardware then you'll need to set to the wrong letter first before switching back to the correct one. Anyway - plug your Maxtor in ( and check it's set to 'G' ) and click on [ Start ] then Right Click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'. Click on 'Disc Management' and you'll see a list of all the drives and partitions that the system can see - one of which will be you Maxtor with drive letter 'G' assigned. Now - Right Click on the Maxtor line and select to change drive letter and in there change to another drive letter - doesn't matter which one as you'll then repeat the above and select 'G' from the list. You'll be warned that changing drive letters may affect programs, but what you are doing is fixing the drive letter so Windows itself won't go switching to the wrong one <lol> When you've done this the setting will be remembered and whenever you plug the Maxtor is it will show as drive G - also any other USB device that requires a drive letter will NOT be able to use that drive letter so even if the Maxtor isn't connected any other device starts from 'H' FWIW I tend to set external drives like this to letter 'Z' to prevent this sort of thing happening <lol> -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'
