Barry- If that doesn't work do you think going to a restore point would fix it for Carolyn? Joan In a message dated 1/12/2011 5:17:11 P.M. Looking at a picture of this keyboard the top left key next to [ESC] is the one for switching the external monitor and I wonder if that's what he did - so try pressing that key to see what changes it makes to the display. The others wouldn't cause that problem. BTW - this is one thing that Dell didn't take into account when they decided to switch the action of those function keys. The standard was for the extra actions like enabling external monitor etc needed the user to press the [Fn] key at the same time - Dell have this active all the time so an accidental key press ( such as a cat walking over the keyboard ) can so all sorts of things !! PS - keep the cat amused by letting it play with the mouse, but not whilst plugged into the laptop of course <lol> -- Best regards, Barry mailto:[email protected] MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid' 64bit
