There are various Lavasoft combinations of anti-spyware, firewall, and anti-virus packages, but I can't find any Lavasoft combinations that includes all three. And all combinations are more than $30. The free Zone-alarm and Avast are good programs. I have free AVG for anti-virus, but others have reported update problems with it, and have gone to free Avast. I get a little nag screen when I boot up, but I can easily tolerate that for the savings. Well it appears they've done it, check the link below :-) http://www.lavasoft.com/products/lavasoft_personal_firewall.php?t=overview Not free, and for $30 a year you can get a full security suite instead of just a Firewall ! -- Best regards, Barry
I doubt if anyone else on the list uses it. Never heard of Lavasoft having a firewall. I use Norton Internet Security on my desktop, and on my laptop I use free Zonealarm Firewall and free AVG antivirus. Some have trouble with free AVG antivirus and have gone to free Avast. Lloyd- If you haven't received list mail check the list archives to be sure you are missing posts or nothing has been posted. Start here: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ Type in the list name to access the list's archives. If you find that you haven't missed any posts which is likely--and that nothing has been posted -- feel free to start a relevant thread and ask a query. I am getting ready for Thanksgiving, and I admit that I am not yet used to the new night and day hours. I feel like I should go to sleep at dark and I'm a nightowl! I assume many are doing the same and that the lists are not on their minds. Elaine What if there were no hypothetical questions? Hello Lists, What has happen to the Rootsweb Lists? I have not received any mail from them since last weekend. Lloyd
I like to save all my e-mails related to genealogy in my genealogy program (FTM) under the relative person. That way I don't have to go back to match it up later. If I decide it is off base and I don't want it any more I just delete the note.
I have a Dell Diminsions 2400 Pentium 4 2.40 GHZ 256 MB Ram Free Space 23.2 37.2 GB Run Windows XP .Version 2002 Irun McAfee on start up and set to run twice a week automatically . I also run RegCure once a week. Two weeks ago I was showing at least 150 empty registry keys. This week it shows only 40 or less . What is happening to my empty registry keys . Also tonight the PC says I have no Virtual Memory !!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is going on?? I did download FarmVille from Facebook . Has that ruined my PC ?? Thanks Carolyn

Is there a safe and easy way to copy and keep these? There are quite a number, so probably do not wish to store them on the computer but if anyone has easy steps on how to do this to disk, I'd be very grateful. Paul Hi Paul, What I do is to create a new file/folder onto my desktop, (label it "mail", or something), then open up my email account "page" and save each to this new folder, (yes, i know, one at a time IS slow). When done, you can save much of it onto floppies, (they hold a lot), or you can burn a C.D. One important thing; before you delete the originals from your computer, check to be sure your copies are okay! -benner-
Joan I know that someplace in my brain lol I will try it and see if it occurs again and let you know Thanks Ema Anytime you have a problem like that you want to see if it is repeatable or just a one-time fluke before deciding that there is anything to fix. Joan
Thank you Barry for trying to help - I still have not found the problem. I tried most everything then tried to add printer, getting the tab ( Error 1058 - the service can not be started, either because it is disable or because it has no enable devices associated with it). I am getting a friend to look at it tomorrow , if not fixed will get a professional person in. This is apparently a browser re-direct that's not so easy to remove as it hides in the Firefox advanced settings - sneaky !! I did find some instructions about it but to be fair it's pretty deep and probably not required if the following works.... Go to [ Start / All Programs / Firefox ] and click on the 'Firefox Safe Mode' icon. This will ask you if you want to reset to defaults and remove all user settings - this is what you want to do so select yes. It won't delete any bookmarks but will disable any toolbars and also set the home page to defaults too. Hopefully this will fix it :-) -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'
When I open a page with Firefox, I get a message "Server cannot be found. Firefox can't find the server at supertoolbar.ask.com". Sometimes, it will then open but sometimes not. I googled it but didn't find a good answer or how to solve it. Thank you for help.
