Hello Tallygators, Thursday, January 7, 2010, 6:16:42 PM, you wrote: T> For the purposes of sharing my pictures with family members is there a way I T> can convert a 3MB .jpg picture into a format that will use less MBs but T> still have good quality? (Am I stating this so you can understand what I T> mean?). Know exactly what you mean and it's a common issue when sending photos by e-mail. There is a trade off between the size of file you can send and the quality of image. It's possible to reduce the file size using a graphics program or special programs for the job such as Pix Resizer, however the smaller the file the worse the quality. You may be able to find a compromise that gives reasonable file size for sending at an acceptable quality but if you wish to send the full file then e-mail isn't the best method. Fortunately there are free services just for this sort of thing so have a look at You Send It - which has a free level that allows up to 100Mb of files to be sent. The procedure is you select the files you want to send and the address you want them to go to then what happens is the files are transmitted to their server and an e-mail sent to the recipient with a link to download them. http://www.yousendit.com/ BTW - I've used this free service and there's no problem with it or security issues to worry about. Does the job and easy as pie to set up / use :-) -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'
For the past few years my husband and I have traveled throughout states where our ancestors lived: NJ, NY, VA, NC, SC, TN, Ky, TX, LA, etc. I have taken pictures of old homesteads, churches, etc. At first I used a film camera, then I started using a digital. I use .jpg format and have converted my film camera pictures to that format. Now the problem is that I can only send attachments of about 9MB at a time. I am 85 years old and am still trying to understand the internal combustion engine. Obviously I am not of the electronic generation but I am doing my best. For the purposes of sharing my pictures with family members is there a way I can convert a 3MB .jpg picture into a format that will use less MBs but still have good quality? (Am I stating this so you can understand what I mean?). I would appreciate any help - baby steps, please. Floreda
Hi, The machine is a Toshiba D-VR7KC DVD/Video cassette recorder. It will also record from any device that can be connected with RCA audio/video cables. It works well for my video camera tapes. I also have 8mm and 16mm film but have not found a way to be able to record that. I believe there are machines that will do that but I would imagine they would be very expensive. Its good to have a project to pass the winter months. The storm you had in Texas is heading our way and will appear sometime tomorrow. best regards, Dave > From: "Mrs. G. Thank you, Bev, for your suggestion. re: program conflicts I had to get rid of zone alarm. When I had the computer tech come out to my home to fix my computer, he said part of the problem was zone alarm. But he left it in my husband's computer. I have windows 2000 pro. My husband has Windows XP. I have different programs than my husband. Barbra WinXP's firewall isn't much good. (Vista's is OK.) I recommend the free ZoneAlarm firewall located at http://download.cnet.com/ZoneAlarm/3000-10435_4-10039884.html (Lots of download buttons on the page. It's the one next to 38.38mb) If you haven't performed a Disk Cleanup in a while, do that and see if that speeds up the computer. Avira, AdAware, SpywareBlaster, and Spybot all are good, and their use means you're not loaded down with "phone home" spyware and you're OK there. Run "Malwarebytes" to see if you have something lurking on your computer. Download at _http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10826546.htm l_ (http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10826546.html) The proper download button on the above Malwarebytes download web page is deceptively small. The small green button for Malwarebytes is on the left side of the page where it says: "A newer version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is available. Download the latest version | Learn more about Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.42" Woody ======================= Barbraseb@wmconnect.com writes: I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and run Win XP. Greetings, Other than going to the expense of paying someone to do it for me .... can anyone give me some advice re: inexpensive equipment &/or information where I could learn how to convert our homemade family movies from the 50's to the 70's &/or VCR video tapes to DVD's ?. Also, if possible, I would like to learn how to add audio to the converted videos. I've no experience in doing any of this so simple explanations &/or baby step instructions or links would be greatly appreciated. I am running Windows XP SP3 Media Edition. Thanks in advance for whatever information any of you can share. Carol
Hello RickandRana, Sunday, December 13, 2009, 5:53:38 PM, you wrote: R> I want to let everyone know that finally changing the mouse has R> returned my hyperactive computer to its normal state. Good to see that you found the solution - it did sound like the mouse was the problem :-) Right time of the year to be looking for a new mouse too <lol> -- Best regards, Barry mailto:barry@yobunny.co.uk MicroSoft Free Zone running Ubuntu 9.10'Karmic'
I want to let everyone know that finally changing the mouse has returned my hyperactive computer to its normal state. We first switched mouses with another computer; that did not work. We changed the batteries in the former mouse; that did not work. Finally, we located a mouse from an old computer, installed it and that did work! Looks like both our computer mouses (mice?) were on verge of failing, or had failed in case of mine, so we need to go mouse-shopping. We so appreciate the time and help of everyone who took his/her time to write and advise us. And btw: for about a half hour, re-booting also did slow down the computer action. Many thanks. Rick and Rana
Sometime today, whenever I send an email, it ends up in my Deleted Items Folder. I've checked the blocked senders list and my addy isn't there. I've checked the safe senders list and my addy is there. Can somebody please help me figure this out so I can get it fixed? I'm using Windows Vista and Windows Mail. Thanks, Doris in NW IL
